These images are from our tour of the Christian Dior exhibition at the Musèes des arts Décoratifs in 2017. THE Dior exhibition from whence the scenography of the Galerie Dior was first created. This is still the biggest fashion exhibition I think anywhere with literally thousands of people every day going through, and featured the 70 years of design at the house.
We had the tour booked right when they opened and we actually got to go through the first bit with no one else there as we arrived early! I didn’t get a ton of my own photos because I had a photographer with me (his images are the ones at the end) and I was trying to be in the moment and actually experience it myself. So hard to do now in the age of social media.
These are some of favourites and you’ll notice a preponderance of RAF Simons because he is still my favourite don’t me! The first with the Sterling Ruby paintings need an entire post of their own but I’m still obsessed with them. The dress to the right on the page with his photo is all patterned from feathers and I had happened to see the sample of it at the Lemarié archive not a year later. Not to mention my favourite version of the bar Jacket, that red coat also by Simons. And every Dior exhibition has to end with the masked ball, of which Dior was totally enamoured with.

The best market imho happens a few times a year around Rue de Bretagne in the 3rd arr. It’s such a beautiful and ancient part of Paris and this is a fun way to explore the are. At the end of the carousel is the waterfall in the beautiful square du Temple which is a great place to take a break when the streets get packed.
Top tips for the market; assume the brand names are fake, a lot of stains won’t come out, and deals can always be made.

A plumassier atelier I visit often in Paris with clients, Maison RD, is a 4th generation, feather-crafting house, now rebranded as Maison Kalij by the young plummasier who has taken the reigns. They work with every couture house, and plenty of non couture houses, realizing the vision of designers using traditional techniques and craftsmanship. Here he is showing us how to strip the feather of its rigid keratin structure to make it more pliable.
