What began as a renovation gradually became something else. An opportunity to explore the architecture, materials and slower rhythms I had grown up around, but perhaps never fully appreciated until now. A chance to reconnect with a part of my own heritage, while carefully adding a layer of our own story to a house that has already lived many lives.
Designing this place has been one of the most joyful and meaningful creative projects I’ve ever undertaken.

Many of these scenes existed somewhere between shadow and light. Dark timber streets, backlit forests, bright skies and the last light across the water.
The ability to retain detail from the deepest shadows to the brightest highlights became particularly valuable throughout this journey.

Through stone, moss, patina and softened architectural details, Haymarket slowly reveals itself in the colours of the Bauwerk palette.
For Fran, Haymarket was the first neighbourhood he called home when he moved to Edinburgh. Returning to it now brings an added sense of intimacy — noticing not only what is there, but what lingers. Through his lens, the neighbourhood is explored as both a physical landscape and an atmospheric one.
