Inside the Chelsea flat that started as a wreck and became a masterpiece. 🖼️

When, former CEO of Europe & Middle East, first walked into his London apartment in 2021, he called it ‘hideous.’ Low ceilings, off-center doors, plastic parquet throughout. Eight months later? A gallery-worthy home where every single object tells a story.

I had the privilege of photographing this extraordinary space for — a two-bedroom flat in a 19th-century Chelsea terrace, completely reimagined from the ground up.

Every room is a curation in itself: the iconic Soriana sofa by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for dressed in sunny Schumacher velvet, 1960s chairs reupholstered in Margarete BouclĂŠ by for Schumacher, a custom coffee table by Stefan Leo, and two bespoke rugs by Helder Johannes that feel like art installations on the floor.

On the walls: a showstopping ‘Broken Mountain’ wall sculpture by Jan Albers sourced through, ceramic mirrors by the legendary mid-century French ceramicist Mithé Espelt, and a Picasso still life presiding over a six-sided dining table by Can you tag, its hand-carved oak base inlaid with raku ceramic tiles.

Contemporary and warm. Considered but never obvious. Proof that a home can be a gallery without losing its soul.

Seeing the world through the lens at John Dransfield’s beautiful home in rural France near Toulouse for was pure joy. The light carried its own quiet magic. Grateful for the warmth and hospitality of our hosts, the vision of, and the inspired teamwork led by.

Thank you to show this extraordinary project of we photographed for his latest book “Still Decorating” published by.
So pleased how this story looks. Out now in Frederic Magazine. Thank you to the best team!
In the tiny french village of Tournon-d’Agenais, designer John Dransfield turns a sprawling 16th-century home with an “ecclesiastic feel“ into a serene modern-day retreat for a pair of globe-trotting clients. Though the couple appreciated the home’s two-foot-thick limestone walls, Gothic arches, and heavy oak beams, taken together, they added up to dark and gloomy rooms. “My goal was to lighten it up and make it bright and pretty,” says Dransfield. See how he did it in our latest issue— on newsstands.

I am not a man of many words. I guess that’s why I do what I do. It gives me the opportunity to peek into the soul and world of others even if it’s just for a split second. There are too many people to be mentioned who helped me along the way. You know who you are. Some have moved on some I call friends and some are yet to be met. I am so behind thanking everyone in part because I can’t make up my mind on how to give back or what to give back. Life goes fast and before you know it’s October. Grateful and Thankful are words not often enough said but I am all of that for each one of you from the bottom of my heart. And if you don’t hear from me it’s because I am busy. But I sure think of you more thank you think. With utmost gratitude to all of you and to my family. After all we are not much without family, friends and community. Happy New Year!
So! excited for this book I was invited to photograph by VeereGrenney. Impeccable direction and styling by Carolyn Englefield
