Hello Senator,
I am a community member with a sincere interest in building a more resilient and equitable food system. I want to ensure you know about the $45 million requested in the State Budget to revive the Local Food Purchase Assistance program which was cancelled by the current federal administration after three years of positive impact in our community. Through LFPA, thousands of boxes of locally-sourced, regeneratively-grown produce was moved from our regional small farms to San Diego Food Bank and Feeding San Diego. It was universally popular among farmers because they received a fair price for their products; was deeply appreciated by emergency food recipients who lack access to healthy, fresh produce; and helped strengthen our local food supply chain which has social, environmental and economic co-benefits for all San Diegans. Reviving LFPA funding is essential to our region and I encourage you to act to ensure that it is included in the budget.
Thank you,
