My heart is full, every beat an explosion of light and happyness.
Not for us. We had a few stressful days to organize the paperwork in Buenos Aires, but from the moment we handed the truck over everything went smoothly. Roger came back in one piece on the estimated arrival day, nothing broken, nothing stolen, even though we had to hand in the keys. Shit happenes on all shipping routes, but maybe Zarates reputation is far too bad.
So what’s the plan with Roger now? He will get a makeover, some love and changes we need to make before we ship him to our next destination, which will probably be in a year.

After we had reached Ushuaia in January, something changed in all of us, a truth that had been mine for some time already. Traveling did not feel being at the right place at the right time any more. The kids missed school and friends, Timms workload got so massive that it overshadowed the joy of traveling, I felt very overwhelmed by the challenges traveling posed on me and a personal huge loss made me realize that I needed more stability, more space, more security. Lotta had spread her wings to live with her boyfriend in Berlin after Christmas and we all felt it was not the same without her.
We wanted to be within reach again, in the same time zone. So we decided to return to Germany. Earlier than expected.
First we struggled with it, thinking we had lost a part of our souls that had been so demanding over the last few years- our travel spirit. After a few weeks in Germany though we all know that we have NOT lost it. We just need a recharge, time to process and let everything we experienced over the last few years sink in. We all have changed and need a place we know ( home) to understand and integrate just how much. We need a touch down at the base.
And just now I find joy again in scrolling through my pics, remembering everything we saw and experienced. I will share all those memories in retrospective now, so much untold about Chile and Argentina still. And we will keep traveling and making plans for new adventures, a new plan is already forming, slowly, peacefully.

Im Sommer 2018 machte sich Michaela von Bargen zusammen mit ihrem Mann und ihren vier Kindern mit dem selbst ausgebauten Campingtruck „Roger“ auf die Reise. We feel a wild mix of emotions: gratitude, wonder, sadness, pride, joy and overall exhaustion. The last few months have not been easy. We went through a lot of processes, each one of us and us as a family, Focusing on us, holding each other we did not share much of Chiles beauty with you. I might over the following weeks.
End of December Lotta left for Berlin to start her life. This was planned long before, but when the time finally arrived it was heartbreaking and soul smashing. We will give ourselves a few days in Ushuaia, cuddled up in a cozy AirBnB, recovering from the strong Patagonian winds that shook the truck over the last few days.

2023 was crazy, turbulent, exhausting, with more good byes my heart could carry. I had to be stronger than in most years I can remember ( my reptile brain might fool me here as I am not good at remembering hard times) and it cost me more energy than usual. I am grateful for all the lessons learned, for all the beautiful things that happened, for my family and friends, for understanding my limits and limitations, for my ability to keep going and finding hope again and again.
Thank you 2023, we farewell you with calmness and peace.
May you all be able to step into 2024 with calmness, peace, hope and a ton of dreams waiting to be fulfilled. Thank you for traveling with us, thank you for all your messages - happy new year!
