Today’s ’At Home’ was truly a knockout with three costume experts with ties to the iconic - all of whom honoured the incredible legacy that John Bright has established.

Freelance costumier Simon Lewis has worked in the Film and TV industry since 2007, specialising in historically accurate menswear for period drama. His career began at the renowned costume house Cosprop, where he trained under John Bright and contributed to productions such as The Duchess, Jane Eyre, Downton Abbey, Anna Karenina, Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, Mr Turner, and Murder on the Orient Express.

Keith Lodwick, a writer, curator and theatre and film historian who is the former Curator of Theatre and Screen Arts at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London where he was the assistant curator for the major exhibition Hollywood Costume (2012). He has just curated Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop at the Fashion + Textile museum, and published the accompanying book The Costume House - the inside story of Cosprop.

Sage Foley is a fashion historian (MLitt Dress & Textile Histories, University of Glasgow), and an Assistant Curator of the John Bright Collection at Cosprop. Her work cataloguing the collection, along with her own experience as a maker (formerly of Redthreaded) has inspire her to co-found the Uncovering Dressmakers project.

We are a little behind (just a year) on getting our recordings on YouTube but we are actively getting this done! Watch this space for updates and for info on our November At Home.

We had so much fun doing the figure drawing sessions that we are doing them again this year!

Dates- July 23rd, August 6th, August 20th
Time- 6:30 to 8:30pm
Location- Cosprop’s Annex Studio

Instead of doing a different period each session like we did last summer, this time we will be exploring a different character each session. We will have a short biography about the character, dressing them in a different time period for the first and second half of the session.

Paper, drawing boards, and pencils provided but feel free to bring any other medium you like.

Free to attend but you do have to book your space in advance on Eventbrite. Link in bio or below in the comments.

We are having so much fun that we just might make this a regular thing. Should we keep doing our figure drawing sessions? 🤔
Here’s a detail of one of our yet unpublished collection items that we have chosen to take to our team’s upcoming presentation ‘Creating Drama’. The Costume Symposium is a fantastic opportunity to meet other costume professionals and take part in an exciting programme of talks and workshops, organised by costume designer Susannah Buxton, this year from 6.-8. September in Nottingham. We are very much looking forward to talking about the use of historic shapes to create visual and emotional drama and about the many levels of inspiration original garments offer to designers, using physical examples from our collection and costume stock. #costumesymposium #nottingham #susannahbuxton #costumedetails #costumedesign
