On the eve of the NATO Summit in Ankara, FNF Türkiye and EDAM co-hosted “Mind the Gap: Can Europe Build a More European NATO?” — bringing together policymakers, military officials, diplomats and security experts to discuss what a stronger European pillar within NATO could look like, and where Türkiye fits in.
The discussion coincided with the launch of our new policy paper, “Reforming European Security: A Turkish Perspective,” co-authored by Fatih Ceylan, Alper Coşkun, Tacan İldem, Nihat Kökmen, Yavuz Türkgenci, Sinan Ülgen, Çiğdem Üstün and Ahmet Üzümcü.
The paper argues NATO is evolving into a “NATO 3.0” model — shaped by the changing nature of warfare and shifting transatlantic responsibilities — and makes the case that Türkiye’s expanding defence-industrial base and strategic position make it an increasingly vital contributor to European security.
