With the construction of Lichtpenweg, the transformation of the Hoefkwartier has now truly begun. Flux is working on the design for the new public space in the area. The Hoefkwartier is transforming from an office district, where 3,500 to 4,000 new homes are being built, into a vibrant urban neighbourhood where living, working and learning come together. The public space is being designed with maximum greening as the guiding principle. As a result, streets, squares and the Hoefpark will have as much space as possible for trees, plants and a pleasant environment. Cars will be given limited space, whilst pedestrians and cyclists will take centre stage in green, low-traffic streets. This green design enhances biodiversity, climate resilience, health and the liveability of the neighbourhood. This transformation has been commissioned by and is being carried out in close collaboration with.

The pedestrian bridge and decking in the Proeftuin Erasmusveld in The Hague have been completed. The new wooden bridge connects the northern part of the park with the southern part of the Proeftuin, a sustainable residential area alongside the ecological zone. The wooden decking is situated by the water garden. Here, aquatic plants filter the water, creating a valuable habitat for fish and birds.
Flux has been involved in the Proeftuin Erasmusveld since winning the tender in 2018. Among other things, Flux worked on the northern section of the park, the landscape and the inner deck of the Leyhof residential building, which have now been completed. The bridge and decking were commissioned by and in collaboration with, and constructed by.

Flux is working on the landscape design for the Nijmegen city island of Veur-Lent. Over the coming years, the current open grassland will be transformed into a layered river park, where differences in elevation, natural vegetation and a dense network of paths will provide space for ecology, recreation and social interaction.
After a broad city survey, the municipality of Nijmegen opted for a green development of the island. Together with residents, entrepreneurs and nature organisations, a programme of requirements was drawn up, which Flux has now translated into a preliminary sketch design. Strengthening the open space, making the river dynamics tangible and developing robust green structures form the core of this perspective.
The design focuses on the area between the Het Bastion water sports centre and the Lentloper. Excavating parts of the area will create a natural transition to the Spiegelwaal. New paths, rugged bank vegetation and open spaces will create a varied and socially safe landscape. Around Het Bastion, there will be space for sports and games, in further coordination with the surrounding area.
Veur-Lent will thus grow into a park with character: a green lung for Nijmegen, where river, landscape and city reinforce each other. In the coming years, the municipality will work towards a provisional and final design; realisation is expected to start in 2028. Commissioned by

Flux has recently been working on several case studies for the design study Stadsflora. One of the case studies is the city centre of Eindhoven. This case study investigated how the soil and water system can form the basis for a new planting strategy for the city. To this end, three unique urban ecotopes were developed that form the basis for future-proof planting. The urban ecotopes offer a new perspective on urban greening.
Stadsflora is a design research initiated by Flux into future-proof planting plans in the city. Among other things, the study looks at robustness of planting, how to deal with future climate conditions, what a natural approach to planting in the city can look like in catchy design principles and how greening the city can go hand in hand with affordable management.
Funded by the Creatieve Industrie and the Municipality of Eindhoven.

Extreme heat, drought, and flooding call for a radical greening of Rotterdam's city center. By approaching mobility differently, the wide city boulevards from Van Traa's Basic Plan can play a key role in the transition to a green, cool, and healthy city. The Goudsesingel is leading the way in this regard: its transformation into a linear sponge park provides space for water storage, cooling, biodiversity, and urban programming.
In this design research Flux sketches a future perspective for the Goudsesingel, in which a stony street is transformed into a sponge park. This will collect rainwater, reduce heat stress, and contribute to a healthy living environment. The design consists of a spatial plan and a transition path that identifies the necessary steps towards realization.
Part of the Rotterdam WeerWoord project, commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam and in collaboration with Rebel.

Flux has recently been working on several case studies for the design research project Stadsflora. One of the cases is The Hague: In The Hague, there is a greening challenge at the neighbourhood and block level. In many places, paving can be converted to greenery in streets and on pavements. These are often residual spaces, pavements with excess paving or oversized and paved public spaces. The areas of these green spaces are relatively small and fragmented, but the sum of all green spaces together does contribute to improving the quality of life and the climate-adaptive design of the city. The potential of this type of green space in the compact urban neighbourhoods of The Hague is central to the case study.
Stadsflora is a designresearch project initiated by Flux, aimed at developing sustainable planting plans for urban areas. The research focuses, among other things, on the resilience of plants, how future climate conditions can be effectively addressed, and how a natural approach to urban planting can be translated into inspiring design principles. In addition, it investigates how greening cities can go hand in hand with affordable maintenance solutions.

At the 2025 Stadmakerscongres (City Makers Congress), Flux will present its design research on the Goudsesingel in Rotterdam: From City Boulevard to Sponge Park.
Extreme heat, drought, and flooding call for a radical greening of Rotterdam's city center. By rethinking mobility, the wide city boulevards from Van Traa's Basic Plan can play a key role in the transition to a green, cool, and healthy city. The Goudsesingel is a pioneer in this process: its transformation into a linear sponge park offers space for water storage, cooling, biodiversity, and urban development.
During this workshop at the Stadmakerscongres, we will discuss the vision for 2125 and explore the steps needed to develop the street into a linear park where a robust water system collects and stores rainwater while simultaneously contributing to a healthy living environment for people, plants, and animals.
The Goudsesingel design research project was commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam, and the Stadmakerscongres is organized by AIR - Architecture Institute Rotterdam.

The Highnote apartment complex, a collaboration with Flux landscape architecture and Studioninedots, commissioned by AM Gebiedsontwikkeling, was completed in October 2023. The building contains a large open plinth followed by a green industrial yard, a green and water-buffering court and a collective roof garden, all connected by the surrounding colonnade.
The three gardens are designed for meeting, relaxing and working in a natural environment. The gardens are designed to be as green as possible, with a planting scheme consisting of a herb layer, shrub layer and tree layer. In this way, various habitats are created that make an important contribution to increasing biodiversity in the city of Almere. Different use of semi-paving and concrete gives each garden its own character in line with the programme within the building.
