The insulin bottle represents what has kept me alive for the past 41 years. Insulin is not just a medication to me; it is the reason I can dream, achieve, and fully embrace life.
The blue tulips growing from the bottle symbolize the life that insulin has given me. I chose tulips because they represent the Netherlands, the country I moved to, leaving behind a comfortable life in Brazil, my family, my career, and a job I truly loved.
It was a difficult decision, but it was driven by a dream: to seek the best possible quality of life while living with diabetes.
I moved to the Netherlands in search of the best treatment available to me. Today, I live with the Omnipod 5 and have access to technologies and healthcare that provide me with greater health, safety, and longevity. Because of that, I have no regrets about the path I chose.

A Camila, por exemplo, saiu da Alemanha só para vir me ajudar no que fosse preciso durante a minha recuperação. E, além dela, tenho outros amigos queridos do coração, daqueles que eu sei que estarão comigo sempre que eu precisar.
Isso nos fortalece e nos dá a certeza de que não estamos sozinhos nessa escolha de ser expatriado. Ainda carregamos o calor do Brasil, o amor, o acolhimento e a reciprocidade.

We all know that living alone in little Holland is not easy. But knowing that I have the best friends, the kind of friends I can count on during the hardest moments — like my post-surgery recovery — makes all the difference.
Camila, for example, came all the way from Germany just to help me with whatever I needed while I was recovering. And besides her, I have so many other dear friends, the kind I know I can count on anytime I need.
That makes us stronger and reminds us that we are not alone in this choice of living abroad. We still carry the warmth of Brazil with us — the love, the care, the sense of welcome, and the reciprocity.

Em 41 anos de diagnóstico de diabetes tipo 1, eu aprendi tanto… amadureci tanto. Sofri, chorei, me rebelei na adolescência e me reinventei aos 40.
Mudei de país, deixei minha amada casa, meu trabalho e o time que mais amei na minha história profissional. Abandonei minha carreira — tudo isso por um único motivo: correr atrás do meu maior sonho, o Omnipod 5. Sempre em busca da melhor tecnologia para que, aos 50, 60, 70 anos ou mais, eu continue com os melhores resultados e zero complicações.
Esse sempre foi o meu objetivo de vida — e sigo chegando cada vez mais perto.
Me arrependo de ter mudado minha vida completamente por isso?

Mudaria algo?
Também não.
O diabetes me ensinou a nunca desistir, a ser forte e corajosa desde pequena… e também a ser teimosa (minha mãe e o Dr. Renato sabem bem disso!).
Hoje, aos 44 anos (quase 45!) e com 41 anos de diagnóstico, só tenho a agradecer:
à minha mãe, aos meus queridos avós, aos meus irmãos e ao — por tudo!
Agradeço ao diabetes por ter me tornado quem eu sou hoje.
E continuo agradecendo à e ao — a melhor chefe e o melhor, mais inclusivo escritório em que já trabalhei.

No meu caso fica ainda mais difícil, pois viver na Europa, em particular aqui na Holanda não é todo esse glamour não! Estou longe da minha família, tenho uma vida anos luz diferente da minha boa vida no Brasil, mas tenho o mais importante, meu tratamento do diabetes, o melhor do mundo!
Viver com a Omnipod 5 é maravilhoso, me deu muito mais liberdade, muito menos hipoglicemias e muito menos dor de cabeça em relação ao diabetes!
Mesmo assim, ainda segue sendo difícil estar longe do meu país, longe da minha cultura e em outro país onde a cultura é completamente diferente da nossa!

In my case, it’s even harder because living in Europe — especially here in the Netherlands — isn’t all that glamorous! I’m far from my family, my life is light-years away from the good life I had in Brazil, but I have the most important thing: my diabetes treatment — the best in the world!
Living with the Omnipod 5 is amazing; it’s given me much more freedom, far fewer hypoglycemias, and way less hassle when it comes to diabetes!
Still, it’s tough to be far from my country, far from my culture, and in a place where everything is so different from what I’m used to.
