I’ve finished Yesteryear but need time to fully digest and savor the meal that Burke served up. Books that question or use satire are layered in such a way that no quick response will do. Any initial reaction will inevitably be the wrong one, so it’s important to exercise patience.
In the meantime, a new book is waiting on the horizon. My gut instinct is to turn to horror, so perhaps it’s Catriona Ward’s new book Nowhere Burning? This is the fun part. Let’s see what the mood decides next!
What book has been your favorite so far in 2026? I don’t think any will top Stoner for me 👀

One of my besties has inspired me to do a what this week post so here you go — pieces of my soul edition.
Reading: halfway through Yesteryear and the hype is so real. I could discuss this book for agessss 😮💨 Hopefully I’ll finish it soon so I can have a proper review up.
Watching: I cried my eyes out watching Remarkably Bright Creatures. All I have to say is protect those beings that need our assistance with all your heart and soul.
Loving: my books, my pens, my new miffy journals, my digitial recorder so I can review my thoughts and feelings before I put them on paper, and the sea. Always the sea. I collect its little treasures as a reminder of all that has been and all that will be 🌊
Eating: sushi, Peruvian chaufas like they’re going out of style, and freshly tossed pasta 😋
Dreaming: about my daughter’s 4th grade graduation ceremony and calling this chapter done.
Favorite spot: my bookshelves where I roam like a Victorian ghost with my candleholder. I like to keep it niche here 😆

These were the recent beauties to grace my door in honor of Mother’s Day this past weekend and that doesn’t include my gift card! 🎉 Of course if you caught my stories you know I couldn’t resist and picked up Yesteryear yesterday 🫶
The FOMO was real with that one though I typically steer clear of hyped books. I can report it’s been wild, authentic, and extremely deep considering the trendy surface discussion (ie, social media, identity, motherhood, etc). I haven’t inhaled a book this quickly in a minute. I’m still hovering over the 80 page mark, but I can safely attest it’s the kind of book every reader longs to read.
Any of these catch your eye? For the first time, I wish I had the capacity to read all of these simultaneously 🥹

A few folks on my last post expressed interest in peeking at some of my dystopian books and others enjoy a mix of genres like me, so here’s a few with a dash of Woolf and Wilde because hello I’m eclectic that way 🫶
Also if I hear another person erroneously proclaiming Kipling bags have monkey charms I’m going to scream — they’re actually gorillas 🫠
I’ve got the mailman delivering more books today (yay!) so you’ll see me casually sitting outside on my front porch sipping on lemonade waiting desperately for the goods.
Have you read any of these beauties?

After showering me with love yesterday, I’ve been yearning to read these beauties. I’ve also got a bookstore gift card to burn and I’m so shocked in the most pleasant way possible.
I’m also yearning:
To swim
To write
To sing
To sketch
To cuddle
To love
To breathe
To be
What kind of books would you want me to highlight next? Contemporary, classics, horror, sci-fi, dystopian, or a mix of genres?

Currently reading Dominion and I’ve had to stop because it’s getting real. Let’s just say I hope it wins all the prizes because this debut is spankin’ good 😮💨 I’ve been living intentionally lately and nature has played a large role. Moments like these remind us of life’s little miracles.
What books have made the most impact on you so far this year?

I’m glad I took these photos before a downpour because now I get to luxuriate in bed and feel alive as the rain patters down the window ✨ I have a total crush on these white books. Bonjour Tristesse is the epitome of hot summer French plaything and it’ll always have my heart. But we’re keeping it dystopian all the way through thanks to Orwell’s masterpiece 👌 I’ve yet to read most but this is normal for a mood reader. We show off our hoard but then casually make it known only two or three have been devoured because that’s the way we roll.
There’s an indescribable but exquisite feeling at finishing a book you didn’t gel with at the beginning but made amends at the end. Double that feeling while a downpour swipes at the coastline and you can smell the ocean and feel the drops on your skin. That’s exactly how I finished Trespasses yesterday. And it made me feel so blessed to be alive on a stormy morning. It was Wuthering Heights ecstasy made into a tropical paradise, the moors gently turned into a flattened gray sea crashing onto rocks and sand alike.
Have you read any of these white books? What book should I read next?

It’s happened. I have no desire to read at the moment. The question is am I worried? Of course not. I’m taking advantage of extra cuddles while I still can, Lola snuggles, and admiring the beauty around me. It’s so easy to forget the little things, even those things you’ve built for so long that are truly worth savoring.
I’ve been considering — no, that’s too formal. A thought has floated across my mind like a cloud of the possibility of rereading Dracula. I remember growing bored with it years ago, especially since it’s written in an epistolary format and that’s not my jam. But a cloud is a cloud, producing shade from the tempest. So maybe it’ll happen. Immersions is another I’m looking forward to immensely, but hush, no time for that yet.
What are your weekend plans? Do they involve gentle nothings?

I haven’t been reading for a few days now, but I’ve been dreaming of my next book after I finish Trespasses. It’s a toss up between Dominion and a horror book. But as a mood reader, it could well be a classic 🤭 I’ve long given up on making to-read lists. Sometimes the next one arrives at my doorstep on the same day. I love the journey. I come from a literary background where for many years professors dictated what I read, for how long, and how much. Now I’m completely free. That feeling never gets old even after finishing my last degree in 2017.
What’s your reading journey like? Do you prefer more structure?

I’ve been a reader since I was two. Books have just gravitated toward me. Whenever I would turn my head as a child, one would magically appear as if on demand. So it’s hard now when the body won’t cooperate. All these beauties are clamoring to be touched and consumed.
Some blurbs for each:
🖊️ Astragal — the MC escapes prison, falls in love with a petty criminal, and it’s all sensory overload from there. Written by Sarrazin who was also a prison inmate.
🖊️ A Helping Hand — a domestic thriller about a couple on vacation who hire a maid, but their good intentions are not what they seem. Likened to a dark Jane Austen.
🖊️ Dominion — shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Race, classicism, all “isms” and Southern heat at its finest.
🖊️ The Princess of 72nd Street — explores the tension of societal expectations and mania.
Which of these catches your eye?
