Meijer Gardens was my first real experience in Grand Rapids. When I was in high school, our art department had a field trip every year where they’d take a bus load of kids from Metro Detroit to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize. Our first stop would always be at Meijer Gardens, I had never seen a place that combines botanical gardens with essentially an art gallery. Needless to say, it left an impression on me and I still feel that awe today when I take a trip there.
This poster was inspired by the sculpture “Two Bears” by Marshall Fredericks that sits outside the children’s garden. When I was working on concepts for this one, I had just read Jeff Tweedy’s memoir and was really touched by the story behind “On and On and On”. That’s always been one of my favorite tracks off SBS, and it just wanted to make me create something tender. This poster was the end result of all that, and of course I had to include the crown jewel of a West Michigan summer, a sunset.
These were printed and designed here in Grand Rapids. 7 screens on Cougar Natural. I’ll have 35 AP copies available tomorrow 6/13 at 12pm EST. I also made a limited amount of art print variants of this design that will also be available then.

This one was a challenge to draw, but I’m pretty pleased with the final drawing, I think in terms of composition it might be my favorite of the 3. My favorite song by the band is easily “The Garden”, and this one is the most inspired by that track.

I’ve tried to lead transparently as my unhinged crazy human self from the very beginning. It’s important to me to share my art with the world, but also relate on an emotional level with other people. It’s excruciating for me to admit, but the beginning of this year was so hard that I truly thought my career might be evaporating. Things were as bad as they’ve ever been, and I got really scared and really desperate. I tried to trust the universe, but eventually, I put out a line of desperation in my network. Allie and RRE were the first responders. They hooked me up with multiple gigs to keep me going —- and then all of a sudden, the floodgates blew wide open and I’m looking at the biggest summer of my career. I can’t explain it, but I am so grateful for it all and learning to trust it, even when it feels impossible.

I was really excited to bring this idea to life for their Spring 2026 tour poster. It was an idea for an art print I had kicking around in my head for years that I never got to. While I was sketching some ideas for this poster, that idea of a dogified vintage treat shop came back into my head, and I thought it would be perfect for a tour poster, where all show dates could go on each jar.
