Why leaving policing was the best decision I ever made:

It’s been two years since I have left policing and it truly was the best decision I could have made for myself.

When people ask me why I left, it’s hard to give a clear answer besides saying it was a “toxic work place environment.” A lot of people assume the job itself is what drove me out, but that’s not the case. The job I absolutely loved. It was the environment I hated. To summarize:

It started with my first month in field training and spending more time sitting at a desk doing nothing than actually learning. When speaking up about that and asking for training, a defamation lawsuit was threatened. It was not understanding how asking for training could lead to that and being told I should’ve not said anything and I brought the drama to myself. It was being sexualized on a daily and individuals taking bets on who’d get to hook up with you first. It was the overall drama. The rumors. No one actually knowing you. Feeling like you couldn’t be yourself. Being brought into a room where individuals pulled up your Instagram and zooming in on your photos while telling you that your “crotch” was showing through leggings. Them going on to say your photos were inappropriate and you either had to chose between having a fitness account or posting police photos, but couldn’t do both. Their reasoning was because you were making the department look bad.

It was spending days crying in the squad car because you became extremely depressed and felt alone. It was watching as your body began to reflect your mental well-being. It was not recognizing who you were anymore. It was dreaming of a life that was more than what you were living.

I reached a point where I knew if I didn’t leave the job, I would be stuck for life.

So with no plan, I left. It wasn’t easy. I hit deeper lows. I felt more lost, but ultimately I had hope and determination to create a better life for myself.

There are so many times where I feel like a broken record with this hormone stuff, but also the more I talk about it, the more DMs or texts I get from girls going through similar experiences so I think it’s so important to continue talking about this as it’s become “my why.”

On slide #2, this was me a little over a year ago. I was struggling with the fact I was gaining weight, losing my hair, suffering from anxiety, and depression. I had gone to my Gyno and BEGGED her to test my hormones. She wouldn’t. She walked out the door and said to me, “I think you’re a little in your head.” I started to feel crazy. If I listened to her, I probably would’ve been on some sort of antidepressant or anxiety med, but I knew there had to be a why for what I was going through.

Slide #3 shows results of my Dutch test I had done in January of 2023. This highlights the fact my progesterone was POST-MENOPAUSAL and my Testosterone was nonexistent. I was 23. I had been working out for 7 years. I was more active than ever before. I tracked my macros. One could theorize why I was that low, whether it was from years of Birth control or being a police officer and my body constantly being in “flight or fight” mode. The point was, I was not crazy and there was a reason behind everything I was experiencing.

I heard a saying one time where, your body is like a car. It gives you warning signs when something is up and you have to give it the proper fuel and nutrients to function accordingly.

I am so thankful for how persistent I was. How I listened to my body. How I found someone who listened to me.

While BHRT is controversial to some, I am living proof of how BHRT can truly heal you. That is my why. This is why I am apart of. I truly believe in the life changing therapies of what the company is doing and I choose to spread the word about how people don’t need to suffer. There’s answers and you’re not alone!!!
3.5 years between these photos. Not shown: the mental struggle, the weight gain, the muscle loss, the muscle gain, and everything in between. A fitness journey, is a journey. You just have to remember your why and know it’ll be worth it.
