Today the priorities were eating well, training hard, socialising and studying. Fitting everything in can mean there’s a lot of organising and forward planning but it’s always worth it.
I often can’t attend the lectures live due to training commitments, but as they’re all recorded, I’m able to catch up at times that suit my schedule. The finance module was a new challenge for me, as my undergraduate background wasn’t in business, but giving myself time to engage with the material, read around the subject and make notes has really helped. I’m now finding it increasingly interesting and rewarding.

I’ve just started my fully remote and part time MBA course at Arden. With my undergrad being sport science it’s been a bit of a change moving to a Business Administration Masters but I’m really enjoying learning something completely new. I discovered Arden when looking for a university that was really flexible to work around busy hockey periods.
Life as a professional athlete isn’t always plain sailing. I picked up a hammy injury all while moving house and starting my masters. Things have been busy and chaotic but so grateful for the versatility of my course allowing me to study anytime anywhere 😆

Fiona Crackles is a professional hockey player for England and Great Britain and a double Olympian.
She first joined the senior women's GB hockey team in 2021 and that summer she was part of the team to win Bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She was then nominated for the 2021 International Hockey Federation Rising Star of the Year Award. She was also a member of the England women's hockey team to win Gold in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Fiona recently graduated from Durham University with a first-class honours in Sport and Exercise Science and is publishing a research brief in Menstrual Cycle Management in Elite Team Sports.
She is passionate about using her research, experience and voice to advocate for female health in sport.

What a 5 years it has been. From being a silly little freshling, to covid ruining our bucs gold dreams, to COUNTLESS recorded lectures listened back to on 1.25x speed. I wouldn’t change any of it, I adore you.
The last couple of years striving to do my very best at university and hockey has been tough, there’s been a fair bit of doubt and obviously a lot of tears.
I can finally say I have graduated from Durham University with a first class honours and the BSc gown colours never felt so good!
This is never something I thought I’d achieve #dyslexialife so I am so proud that I worked hard and pushed myself. I have to thank everyone who has been a part of the journey and wiped the tears away (happy and sad) along the way.
