Thrilled this week to have this project commence on site.
Originally designed and built by Alistair Knox in 1965 for Ivan East, better known as the original Marlboro Man (!), the existing house has a unique curved layout overlooking the Yarra River, with all the warmth, restraint and connection to landscape that makes these houses so enduring.
The project is a relatively light touch renovation that aims to keep the spirit of the original home, whilst opening key spaces, improving light, and adapting the home for contemporary living.

Set within open country and surrounded by scattered red gums, the house sits low in the landscape as a series of simple, connected volumes.
Designed as an off-grid home for a family of four, the project focuses on outlook, thermal performance, and a restrained material palette that will settle over time.

Located on Wadawurrung Country on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, this coastal retreat was shaped around light, air and a sense of calm. A restrained palette of natural materials anchors the home, framing ocean views while creating sheltered spaces that work quietly across the seasons.
Designed to tread lightly, the house operates largely off-grid, supporting year-round comfort with a reduced environmental footprint.
