I probably still would have been a good teacher, but I don’t think I would have found the same sense of purpose and fulfillment.
And let’s be objective: I also wouldn’t have built a business capable of bringing financial reward.
I tried.

I remember vividly the last edition of my grammar course, Explicit Advanced Grammar. I was in the middle of a lesson when, out of nowhere, I caught myself thinking: What am I doing here?
The strange thing is that nothing was objectively wrong. The lesson was organized, the students were engaged, the content was “working…” and yet, something no longer aligned. That was me and the bitterness of pedagogical discomfort: although everything was “working,” I was no longer fulfilled by a syllabus revolving around grammar.
At that moment, I knew that would be the last edition of the course.
Looking back, that very question became the catalyst for a major shift in my teaching. Not because I suddenly rejected grammar, but because I started questioning the role it was playing in my lessons, the assumptions behind my choices, and whether the classroom experience I was creating truly reflected the kind of learning I believed in.
Pedagogical discomfort is often treated as a sign that something is failing. Sometimes, however, it is a sign that something is evolving.
And perhaps that is what professional growth really looks like: not certainty, but the willingness to sit with discomfort long enough to let it change the way you see teaching.
What do you think?

That’s exactly why I created Language Booster for Teachers.
By combining task-based interaction with lexical exploration and reflection, the course creates opportunities for teachers to speak, experiment with language, notice patterns, and refine their expression. The goal is not simply to “learn vocabulary,” but to explore how language is designed to communicate meaning, perspective, tone, and nuance.
This is not an intensive language-development programme. It is a lighter, more flexible space designed to keep teachers meaningfully engaged with their English during the break, without the pressure often associated with long-term courses.

The issue is that the phrase often collapses several very different things into one grand claim.
A teacher may have developed:
a teaching style
a course structure
a sequence of activities
a personal framework
a branding identity
a set of principles
a niche
a workflow
a repertoire of techniques
But a method traditionally implies something far more comprehensive and theoretically grounded.
In classical ELT terminology, a method usually presupposes:
a theory of language
a theory of learning
principles of syllabus design
assumptions about interaction
roles for teachers and learners
views on correction, input, output, assessment, progression, etc.
That is an enormous claim. Almost civilization-sized in pedagogical terms. Tiny detail. Casual Tuesday afternoon project.
So when someone says: “I created my own method” without demonstrating those underlying principles, the statement can sound inflated or conceptually vague.

It’s about what we learn and who we become in the process.
Happy to be aging gracefully, wisely, and humbly.

That moment sparked a great discussion. The words carried the emotional tone, but the grammar shaped the meaning. It showed them that vocabulary gives us the material for expression, while grammar allows us to position ideas in time, express perspective, and add nuance. When both develop together, language becomes far more than a collection of words. It becomes thought made visible.
Vocabulary and grammar are not rivals competing for attention in the classroom. They work together.
Does it happen in your classroom as well?

As someone whose students are English teachers, I experience the profession on two levels. The insecurities, the comparisons, the responsibility don’t just affect me… they echo back at me.
But teaching was never meant to be competitive. Instead, it has always been meant to be a craft, a shared one.
It saddened me this morning to realise that last year I asked a teacher who joined one of my courses to write a testimonial about their experience. They told me they loved the course. They passed their exam. And yet, they never followed through. Later, I saw them publicly thanking another teacher for what they had accomplished. And instead of wondering why, I’ll keep showing up generously.

So, I went to my phone, hunting for images that might support the idea only to realize that when I’m not teaching, my life is remarkably ordinary.
No exotic backdrops. No aesthetic rituals. No carefully curated “off-duty” persona. Sorry to disappoint you, but this is me! Hi!
