100 YEARS OF AN ICON: All of our ‘Last Call’ films were based on a series of site-responsive poems by Jean Atkin. They were inspired by people’s experiences and stories of the red British telephone box.

In the final short, ‘The Dog Box’, a woman makes a surprising new friend. It was filmed in the phone box on King Street, a short distance from Hereford Cathedral.

The Woman was played by Kate Pothecary and Belle was played by Dash.

The ‘Last Call’ films were commissioned by The Courtyard and filmed in partnership with The Task at Hand and Lisle Turner of Open Sky. You can find them by following the link in our bio.
100 YEARS OF AN ICON: The penultimate of our ‘Last Call’ short films is ‘Margaret And Tony Can’t Come To The Phone Right Now’. In this poignant film, an elderly man dials the same number unsuccessfully every day.

The red phone box sits in the heart of Pembridge, alongside the quintessential village shop, pub and post-box.

‘Margaret And Tony Can’t Come To The Phone Right Now’ features Chris Morgan and Kara Lyons.

100 YEARS OF AN ICON: The phone box in Holme Lacy was painted an eye-catching blue before taking on a new role in the community. ‘I Am Not A Phone Box’ captures the moment before the box took on it’s new role.

100 YEARS OF AN ICON: Many of us remember a time when many households were without their own landline, let alone mobiles. In ‘The Waiting Game’, a young man has to visit his nearest phone box to await a call that will change his life.

The young man is played by Fletcher Garrard and it was filmed in Lower Maescoed, near Ewyas Harold.

100 YEARS OF AN ICON: The phone box in Abbey Dore provides shelter to two children making their own entertainment in ‘The Endless Day at Mill Lane’.

The ‘Last Call’ series was commissioned by The Courtyard in 2021. The films were a means to bring art to the people of Herefordshire at a time when we could not gather together in public spaces - a means of reaching outer sting just as the phone boxes featured once did.

‘The Endless Day At Mill Lane’ featured Lily and Toby Jones. It can be seen in full on YouTube, along with all of the ‘Last Call’ films.
