And Caesalpinia Pulcherrima, whose seeds were used by enslaved women to end pregnancies, in an attempt to prevent their children from being born into captivity and cruelty. What at first appears as merely decorative is actually closely connected to memory, resistance and the history of sugar.
Yesterday at Cannes, Mohammed Amer, Annemarie Jacir, Akuol de Mabior, Bao Nguyen and Rithy Panh were announced as the next filmmakers to receive support for new short films exploring displacement and migration. Their stories move between Palestine, South Sudan, Vietnam, Cambodia and beyond. The fund supports the makers in creating a new short film, which will premiere at IFFR in 2027.
On 17 June, you can watch the first films from the fund during a special programme at Fenix and LantarenVenster for World Refugee Day.

This milestone brings pride, and above all, gratitude. What stands out is the diversity of visitors, from near and far, each bringing their own story.
You may recognise something of your own story, or that of someone you love, in one of the artworks. At Fenix, migration appears through the eyes of artists: timeless and universal, human and part of everyday life.
