From Kingston to London, Rio de Janeiro to Addis Ababa, human beings have been bringing sound systems to public spaces for decades. Acting as anchoring points for collective listening, soundsystems have catalysed new communities, genres and entire movements.
In celebration of Karneval der Kulturen, and are teaming up to bring you a panel with two experts diving deeper into the role sound systems play around the world and importance of coming together on public streets to listen.

MEET THE PANELLISTS
Linett Kamala is a DJ, Artist, Academic, Community Organiser, Creative Producer & Founding Director of LIN KAM ART. She is known as the Notting Hill Carnival ‘Sound System Queen’, being credited as one of the first female DJs to perform on a sound system in the mid 1980s at the event and is now one of the organisers, serving as Board Director.
Edna Martinez is a Colombian Caribbean DJ, producer, and curator who brings champeta and the street-born Picó sound system culture of Cartagena to global audiences. Handcrafted, powerful, and colorful speakers, where picoteros energize local bailes with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, channel a living tradition of music grounded in joy, creativity, and collective memory.

Angel Audio Soundsystem is a FLINTA-built 4-way deep bass Soundsystem from Berlin, developed through the FBM community and active since 2025, with Outlook being their festival debut.

Femme Bass Mafia (FBM) is the project of a passionate music crew that aims to provide a safer space for women, trans and non-binary people for the learning and practising of DJing and music production. Our goal is to support our adelphs in sharing their vision of bass music.

While the Expo became a pulsating communion lasting into the early morning, the Boutique invited a different kind of listening; surrounded by shapes, textures, and sonic details that encouraged pauses, curiosity, and exploration.
