Four years ago, I found Amapiano. Or did it find me? A sound that grabbed me like no other genre before. Very quickly I knew: this is the soundtrack I want for my life. I just had no clue how deep this rabbit hole would go.
At first, I was just listening. Every day I dug for new tracks. Some blew my mind so hard I played them 50+ times on the day I found them, shaking my head in disbelief while laughing at yet another wildly creative log drum section.
After two years as a listener – and a much longer break from making music myself – it hit me: Wait… Am I not a musician, too? What did I take all those piano lessons for as a kid? So I dusted off my old keyboard, upgraded my setup, and started The Amapiano Alphabet.
What began as instrumental experiments quickly grew into something bigger, because a few months in I understood: Amapiano isn't meant to be made alone.
It’s about people.
It’s about vibe.
It’s about sharing moments.
Since then, I've been lucky to work with incredible artists from different countries, most of them from South Africa, where this movement started. A movement that turns studio sessions into celebrations and collaborations into real connections. Along the way, I've made friendships I never saw coming.
So: a big Thank You to the pioneers of Amapiano for creating this beast of a genre, to everyone in SA for welcoming me with open arms, and to every single one of you riding along, in the studio or in front of the speakers 🫶🏻

The Twelve Steps of AAA (Amapiano Addicts Anonymous)
1. We admitted we were powerless over amapiano – that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
8. Made a list of all the neighbours we had harmed at 3am, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when doing so would interrupt the buildup.
10. Continued to take personal inventory, and when we said "one last song", promptly admitted we lied.
11. Sought through headphones and meditation to improve our conscious contact with the log drum as we understood it, praying only for knowledge of the next drop and the stamina to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to amapiano addicts, and to practice these principles at all our functions.
