These aren’t steak specialists but have some killer beef dishes, so honourable mentions go to:
✔️ for their wagyu
✔️ for their wagyu bistek [pr]
✔️ for their beef rice bowl
The prawn wontons were juicy and well seasoned, and it’s a big bowl of noodles for the price. But as a Hong Konger who grew up with these noodles, some elements were off the mark for me. Personally, I’d love for it to be closer to the original with thinner and more springy noodles and a more flavourful broth.
The vibes and service here are excellent though. It’s buzzy and welcoming. I also can’t fault a place for spotlighting Cantonese cuisine and perhaps adapting it slightly for a different market!

has just opened on a quiet side street off Oxford Circus. With its dark wood and marble finishes, it exudes elegance yet still feels warm and welcoming. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street.
Expect a more traditional yet elevated take on pastries here. For something rich and decadent, go for the chocolate pain au suisse. The quality of the chocolate is excellent and I was pleasantly surprised to find so much filling! For something a bit lighter, go for the raspberry danish. The custard filling was creamy and well-balanced, not overly sweet. They told us we couldn’t leave without trying the almond croissant and I can see why: again, great filling and solid textures. Some might want a slightly crisper pastry, but this worked for me!
Although the pastries here aren’t as trendy as some of the other popular London bakeries, you’ll definitely leave satisfied. Bear in mind if you’re visiting that some of the savoury options aren’t available until later in the morning.

This place is all about customisation. You build your perfect bowl, choosing the broth’s richness, thickness, and spice level, then even the firmness and thickness of your noodles. If you love ramen, this place will be right up your street. Bowls start at £13.45 including chashu, though other toppings cost extra.
👍 Bonus points for a deeply satisfying bowl of noodles that you’ll slurp down in now time.
👎 Minus points for standard toppings like egg and nori costing extra, and portions being on the smaller side, which means it can add up. My egg was also slightly overcooked.

Their specialty is, of course, khao soi, a coconut curry noodle soup that’s flavourful, rich, and doesn’t shy away from spice. You even get refills on the toppings, including extra coconut milk if you want to dial the heat back. You can go classic with chicken or splash out on wagyu, scallops or langoustine. The juicy chicken was my favourite. It’s tender, well-seasoned, and perfect with the noodles. Prices skew high, but they’re using quality British produce.
Here’s everything we ordered with my favourites highlighted:
- Moo ping (grilled pork belly skewers)
- Larb dib (raw beef with toasted rice)
- Gai yang pong yi ra (grilled chicken thigh) ⭐️
- Pla som (sea bream)
- Khao soi with langoustine
- Khao soi with scallops ⭐️
- Khao soi with wagyu
- Khao soi with chicken ⭐️
👍 Bonus points for the noodles, some strong supporting dishes, and the buzzy atmosphere, thanks to that open kitchen.
👎 Minus points for the dessert and the portion size for the price.

We ordered:
- Hand-pulled noodles with beef
- Hand-pulled noodles with cumin lamb
- Hand-pulled noodles with braised beef in broth
- Pork dumplings
- Lamb skewers

Loved the rich flavours of the broth, but unfortunately the braised beef wasn’t quite as tender as I’d typically expect. The juicy pork dumplings and well-spiced lamb skewers more than made up for this, though.

For a cheap and cheerful meal in a bustling setting, Xi’an Biang Biang is perfect. I’d suggest booking ahead as it can get busy; there was a queue out the door when we were leaving.

I’ve found my new go to dim sum spot:. Excellent quality dim served in lavishly decorated surroundings, making it perfect for Lunar New Year and beyond. It’s hard to narrow down my favourite dishes but they did all the usual best-selling dim sum superbly, plus don’t miss their beef brisket noodles.
