Let’s dive in with full-core strings….
We’ve been working with for almost 20 years now, back when we first introduced the VF Series in 2006. They’re used exclusively on our VF and Deluxe BN Series in medium gauges.
We find DR full-core strings to be among the most reliable out there, they have a taut yet comfortable string tension, a strong low B, they age in a very sweet and natural way, and they offer a handful of consistently incredible strings that allow us to tailor our target tone and feel…much like how we select our lumber.
- We typically pair DR Steel Fat Beams with Maple fingerboards to complement the brighter high end, growly midrange and focused low end. These work really well with Mac Ebony boards when we’re looking to fill Ebony’s seemingly scooped mids.
- We opt for DR Nickel Lo Riders with Rosewood fingerboards to lean into the sweeter highs and growly mids. They also age gracefully and tend to sound like flats with a little extra bite after several years.
- We’re now exploring their new Dragon Skin + Steels specifically when complementing the scooped mids of a Mac Ebony & Ash build. The DS+ are also lively and aggressive and are absolutely ideal for slap and metal.
- Special shoutout to the DR Quantum Nickel Pure Blues. The warmth you’d expect from Nickel with the clarity you get from Steel. These also feel buttery smooth right out of the pack. No doubt we’ll be rolling these into the rotation more often.”
