New year energy can be powerful thing to harness but it shouldn't include necessarily a shopping cart.

These are 5 mindful fashion mantras we’re carrying into 2026. Not as rules, but as reminders. The kind you come back to when the ads get loud, your closet feels “boring,” or you’re trying to do better without burning out.

Which one do you need most right now?

• A new year doesn’t signal a new wardrobe.
• Buying less isn’t deprivation. It’s freedom.
• If it won't give you 30 wears, it doesn’t need to come home.
• If it’s vague, it’s not transparent.

You don’t need to do everything. Just do one thing, consistently.

Share this carousel to your Stories with the mantra you’re choosing (circle it, screenshot it, or write the number).

Tag us so we can reshare a few, and so others can find the one they needed today.
Production waste isn’t an accident; it’s a predictable outcome of how the fashion system is designed.

We’re often encouraged to focus on what happens after we’re done with clothing. But a lot of waste happens before a garment ever reaches your closet: material offcuts, overruns, samples, rejects, and products that are made “just in case”, then treated as disposable.

The good news: when we identify the problem, we can push for better upfront solutions, including:

• Producing less and restocking only what sells - smaller first runs + data-led replenishment (instead of manufacturing “just-in-case”).
• Cutting waste at the cutting table - pattern/nesting software + designing for fabric width to reduce offcuts.
• Stopping sample waste before it starts: 3D/digital sampling + produce physical samples only for confirmed designs.

If you, as a citizen, want to focus on a few simple actions:

• Choose brands that produce small batches or pre-order/made-to-order (production based on real demand).
• Ask brands publicly: “What % goes unsold, and what happens to deadstock, samples, overruns, and rejects?”

More ways to take action (and learn without the overwhelm):
And follow along at

Save this for your next “quick purchase” moment. Share it with someone who thinks fashion waste only happens at the end.

What does responsibility look like in a global fashion system overflowing with waste?

Our new short film, produced in collaboration with, is available to stream now. “From Store to Shore” spotlights Accra, Ghana, where waste clothing from the Global North pollutes the beaches and inundates Kantamanto, one of the world’s largest secondhand markets.

Kantamanto is more than a market. It’s an ecosystem, sustained by tens of thousands of people who sort, mend, and reimagine excess clothing discarded by the original consumers. But today, even this most innovative of systems is being pushed to its breaking point.

And yet, in Kantamanto, resilience and ingenuity persist, through not only upcycling but collective action. With the support of The Or Foundation, the market’s workers have formed the Kantamanto Women’s Association to give them a united voice. Many women in the market are piecing together where their labor sits in the global fashion system and calling for brands to be held accountable for the waste they generate.

But these women cannot shoulder the burden of excessive clothing waste alone. The film is a call to the global fashion industry to take full responsibility for the end of life of their products—what happens to them once they have left the store.

8 fashion resolutions you’ll actually keep (no guilt):

• 3-Outfit Rule: if you can’t style it 3 ways with items you already own, it’s a no.
• 48-hour cart pause + secondhand scan.
• One-in, one-out (same category), repair/rehome/resell.
• Wear-count goal: 5 pieces → 10 wears each in January.
• Do laundry like you’re extending lifespans: cold, air dry, full loads.
• Fix-It 15: 15 minutes/month to mend, de-pill, re-sew.
• Speacial occasion outfit = borrow/rent first.
• Storage bin approach: Repair / Resell / Donate (thoughtfully).

Now your turn: Which one are you choosing for January? Add the number (or drop your own resolution) in the comments below!

Save this for Jan 1. Share it with a friend who’s trying to shop differently.

“The most sustainable garment is the one already in our closet.”

Circular fashion is not just about buying “eco” labels. Kelly Drennan from breaks it down into the 7 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, resale, re-purpose and rent.

Happy Holidays from the FTA family, to yours. 🤍

As this year winds down, we just want to say thank you for being part of this community, whether you came to an event, swapped or repaired something you love, invited us into a classroom, partnered with us through the CCTC, or simply followed along and shared a post. Those “small” actions add up to real momentum, and in 2025 we felt that hope becoming more real.

Wishing you rest, warmth, and a little extra time with the people (and pieces) you love. If you’re looking for a gentle way to start the new year: wear what you already own, mend one thing, pass one thing along, and keep asking better questions about what we buy.

September (in Canada) is synonymous with back-to-school, and we figured now would be the perfect time to re-introduce ourselves!

Hi, we're, Canada's biggest non-profit organization working to advance sustainability in the entire fashion system through education, awareness, research and collaboration.

We've been around since 2007, when founded the organization in hopes of creating a better world for her two daughters.

Our mission?
We work with the people who make, sell, buy, wear, resuse and eventtually dispose of, or recycle clothing!

We've been busy over the years, including...

♻️ Established the Canadian Circular Textiles Consortium (CCTC) with the goal of connecting all stakeholders in the value chain to share knowledge, reduce duplication of efforts, and foster collective action to advance Canada’s transition to a circular textiles economy.

♻️ Launched a youth education program which uses fashion as an accessible means to discuss broader topics surrounding climate change. This program is available via workshops, as well as unit & lesson plans.

♻️ Launched an employee education program based on the success of our youth education initiatives, and because lots of adults don't know the stuff our kids are learning about!

♻️ Ran the World Ethical Apparel Roundtable (WEAR) Conference for 9 years,, uniting designers, brand owners, NGOs retailers, academics, policy makers, manufacturers and innovators, to inspire collective action toward sustainability. (Stay tuned for our upcoming textiles track at the Canadian Circular Economy Summit in April!! 👀)

♻️ Established ReMode, a public education event to teach people about how they can embrace circular fashion (Psst – stay tuned on which new cities you’ll be able to find this event in 2025! 👀)

♻️ Providing the latest resources on key topics, from material innovation, certifications, opportunities to take action, and so much more! It's all available on our website.

In summary... it's nice to re-meet you! We're happy you're here following along. 🤍
