Located in Italy, I would still consider it a hidden gem as it was quite quiet when we visited recently! I expected it to be busier with the latest James Bond movie exposing its beauty, but was pleasantly surprised with how calming I found this city to be. We loved wandering up and down streets, marveling at the gorge and finding hidden restaurants and shops amongst our exploration. Have you been yet?

We visited once a year since living in Germany and love exploring more of this area. In the winter you have the famous Christmas markets, in the summer you have the gorgeous outdoors to explore by bike, and then in the fall you have harvest season. Each season is so special to visit! I only have spring left which is my favorite season for the year as the weather gets warmer. I highly recommend adding this region to your Europe bucket list!

Very much still in awe of this region and I still think it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in Europe. It was such a special trip and I would love to return to explore more lakes and hikes on a future visit.
Important to know:
- summer season is very short, July & August are your safest bets for nice weather but of course it’s still unpredictable
- book early especially since the summer season is short accommodations book up fast
- renting a car allows you a lot of flexibility and I highly recommend it
- pack layers! Weather can change day to day so this is essential!
- have fun!!
