In 1963, Emil Martens, a Danish immigrant living in a one-room cabin in the woods of Aroostook County, Maine, was murdered. The case went cold. At some point, the Maine State Police told his family the files had been lost. His name does not appear on any unsolved case list in the state. Kristen tracked down records that had never been released publicly and worked directly with Emil’s surviving family to tell this story.

After more than seven years, “Vandy” Jane Doe has been identified as Yadezia Jones of Nashville. She was 25 years old at the time of her death. Below is information from Metro Nashville PD:
“On, officers were sent to 4420 Sulphur Creek Rd after citizens located a decomposing body on the side of the road near this location. MNPD and the Medical Examiner’s Office were unable to identify the victim. Numerous tips were investigated. The University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) developed STR and mtDNA profiles that were entered into CODIS, but no matches were ever made.“ In 2022, a decision was made to pursue FIGG/IGG, and “samples were sent that same year to Othram Lab who developed a comprehensive DNA profile. That profile was uploaded to Family Tree DNA and GED Match Pro. In October of 2025, DNA Investigative Solutions began assisting our investigation, doing genetic genealogy research into this case. On, through their research and some investigative work by MNPD detectives, Yadezia Jones was developed as a possible candidate to be Vandy Doe. Contact was made with her family that same day and a DNA sample was obtained to compare with the profile of Vandy Doe.” UNTCHI performed the comparison.
On February 4th 2026, MNPD “was advised that the DNA profiles were a familial match, confirming that Vandy Doe is Yadezia Jones. Her cause of death is unknown. This investigation is still ongoing.“
