Hidden behind the study, the room was designed as a moment of compression and contrast within the house—more removed from the public living spaces.
Cove lighting washes the textured Heath Ceramic tile from above, emphasizing shadow, depth and variation—a result of its slow, handmade process.
The result is darker, quieter, and more atmospheric than the surrounding spaces: a small room designed to feel immersive and special.

Originally a 1929 Craftsman, the home was horizontally cut and lifted to increase ceiling heights on both the lower and main floors. A new roof structure was then added above—allowing the proportions and livability of the house to be completely rethought while maintaining the character of the original home.
Developed in collaboration with Peter Rose Architecture, the exterior was meticulously detailed to retain the depth, shadow, and craftsmanship of the original house rather than becoming a simplified interpretation of it.
Solar panels were integrated into the new roof, while the coastal planting by Donohoe Living Landscapes softens the transition from street to house with a drought-sensitive landscape designed for the West Coast climate.
Behind the familiar exterior is a quietly contemporary family home defined by warmth, craftsmanship, and carefully considered detailing carried through every room.
Set in Vancouver’s most coveted family oriented neighbourhood it is a testament to our clients’ dedication to honouring the past and envisioning a home for their family’s future.

At the back of the appliance garage, a wire chase is integrated below the counter and paired with a custom Corian grommet, allowing larger plugs to pass through.
No cables cluttering the surface. No plugs interrupting the back panel. Subtle Bocci 22 outlets remain accessible when needed.
A simple idea, requiring coordination across electrical, millwork, and countertops.
The section drawing supports that coordination—allowing the contractor to understand how it all comes together and to plan and sequence the installation so the result looks effortless.
A subtle detail that disappears in use, but improves everyday living.

Inside the appliance garage, the edge of the Corian counter is seamlessly raised to catch and contain spills—keeping the surrounding area dry without adding anything extra like a back or side splash.
No inserts, no breaks in material. Just a controlled shift in level and a precise edge doing quiet work.
A small adjustment, but one that enhances daily use.

Continuing the oak across the main floor, and set beside the concealed fridge, the appliance garage allows the kitchen to shift between stillness and use.
When open, it becomes a dedicated coffee station—a durable Corian countertop, cable management integrated into the back, with a 22 system for quick access.
Thin metal shelving keeps the interior light against the warmth of the oak.
Then, with a slide, it returns to a quiet, uninterrupted elevation.

Instead of adding hardware, we integrated a solid wood pull directly into the panel—sized specifically to fit our client’s hand.
The fridge door extends past the gable, allowing the pull to sit cleanly within the elevation while remaining comfortable in use.
Below, the freezer carries the same idea horizontally—stopping short of the gable to keep the lines quiet and continuous.
Subtle details, but together they’re what make the kitchen feel calm and resolved.
