I don’t usually make posts like this. But after returning home and posting about my trip I am beyond disgusted by some comments I’ve gotten and been told about. I feel blessed to even be here and get to experience these happy moments among so many scary ones. It hurts hearing people instead of celebrating with me that for 5 days I got to smile and forget about my tumor, my hearing, and my unfavorable PET scans. Instead they turn what has been the only positive and enjoyable part of a devastating year into wondering where my money comes from or ā€œwhy anyone would gift her a trip over someone healthyā€. Not one dollar from donations went into this. Nor did I take a spot from ā€œsomeone healthyā€ (whatever that means) I am NOT rich, Im not taking or stealing experiencs away from ā€œhealthy peopleā€ to afford this. I worked very hard for this years back AND had incredible angels come together to help with the little details. This is why I’ve stopped sharing so much, have distanced myself from a lot of things. Everyone who has celebrated with me, lifted me up, helped me through this difficult time- thank you. Today they activated my device and I can HEAR and understand speech again!!! Now to fight to get rid of the remaining cancer. The journey is never ending. The next time you see someone enjoying something, celebrating, and getting to live a little- remember that you have no idea of all of the difficult moments they had to fight through, work for, and endure to get there. In a world so dark right now- choose to be someone’s light. You never know how much it may be needed. And how the power of your negative words can really dim it. #cochlearimplant #onedayatatimeā¤ļø #orlandoinformer #braintumorawareness
Unfortunately my fight with this cancerous Glomus tumor is far from over. Please pray that the tumor team can come up with the perfect treatment plan that rids me of every cancer cell, further preserves my hearing and helps my quality of life. We prayed just surgery would solve most of my issues- but it coming back with mixed malignant cells has really complicated things (especially with the addition of my implant. I will return to MD next week to begin the process.

I have been so exhausted (sleeping for days), my counts are a little wonky, and my balance has been Increasingly getting worse despite therapy. This week we prepare for radiotherapy, I get extra fluids, Iron, and a new baseline of labs. I feel so weak (physically and emotionally.)

So thankful for my incredible team at RUSH and MD Anderson. My oncologist who specializes In endocrine cancer, hasnt ever seen anything like this in her carrer. Im truly one in a million. Please pray for me and for everyone coordinating my care. I am very scared but am challenging my anxiety and worry into putting together care packages for others patients, packing for my vacation, and trying to get excited for the holidays.

One day at a time šŸ©·ā„ļø #cancer #nevergiveup #cochlear
After a lot of tears, sleeping through my alarm, being late to check in, surgery being delayed, 5 hours in the OR, a couple complications, a nice big scar and a lot of people praying for me…my cochlear/osia implant is in! My head, brain 🧠 šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«, neck, and mind are exhausted and sore.

Scans and lab work came back not looking good last week and new concerns have come up. I have needed to step away for privacy and healing. On top of all of this losing snap, sudden and devastating changes to my medical care, and no end in sight to this pain is a paralyzing. I have never felt so scared and so defeated.

I have no idea what lays ahead right now- but I’m thankful for loved ones who helped put up my Christmas decorations. I’m grateful for all the items off my list I’ll look forward to opening when I’m home. In 2 weeks I’ll have a second surgery for biopsies, my bladder, and any unexpected interventions that may be necessary.

I’m in a lot of pain. This surgery was intense and will continue being challenging. my big turn on appointment- where I’ll hear for the first time is December 17th. šŸ’•āœØ#onedayatatimeā¤ļø #cochlear #cochlearimplant #osia #nevergiveup
āœØšŸŽ—ļøIt’s hard to come on here. Do people even hang around? Would they be interested if I continued sharing?

4 months ago I was diagnosed with an extremely extremely rare tumor in my right ear. 1 in 1 million people are diagnosed with glomus/paraganglioma tumors a year. Around 42 people In the last 30 years have experienced this rare condition.

After being dismissed for YEARS and having my symptoms (pulsating tinitus, headaches, hearing loss, balance problems, etc) largely ignored due to my other conditions I sought out another opinion because I began falling, my hearing was getting worse,

Rush found the tumor immediately upon looking in my ear at the first appointment, confirmed it via a CT scan, but it coming back malignant was so much worse and even more surprising and rare. Rush has never seen my exact tumor type before. It measured 3.5/4cm and ended up being larger and deeper than anticipated. RUSH Nueroscience, ENT, 13 west and so many more departments took such incredible care of me during my angigram and skull based surgery. It has been so scary and traumatic and my fight is only beginning. I will receive radiation treatment, additional PET scans and regular follow ups to trace other paragangliomas, and am being treated by MD Anderson who are aking great care of me.

Because of this I will need a cochlear implant. I was just approved for one and got my custom aid that I’ll use until surgery. If there is anyone here who has one or who has experience with them please please please send me a message. I would love some reassurance and guidance. My insurance doesn’t pay for a lot of my care, thank you to those who’ve donated making it possible for me to continue fighting. I do not work, do have disability (been fighting for 2 years)

My first set of tests did not come back in my favor. I’m weak, I’m exhausted, and my will to fight is sometimes hard to find. Fot those who still read here-thank you for not giving up up me. This is my biggest fight yet and I don’t want my story to be over. I am scared. So scared. #glomustumor #tumorfighter #nevergiveup #cancerfighters #iwillsurvive
Surgery again! Trusting my team that they can clear everything out and get me on a better path to recovery with better pain relief after clearing more problem areas out. Was able to give over 100 cards and cookies to all of the OR floor staff, volunteers at all entrances, and the cafe. Definitely helped my heartšŸŖšŸ©·šŸŽ„āœØYou know you’re a very known patient when they allow you to wear your own comfortable Christmas outfit back. It’s definitely the little things. For the first time in 10 years all 4 of my adopted siblings were reunited under one roof for Christmas and got to hug and be with my mom together!!!! Her birth children were also there- making this a truly incredible and memorable day. Praying for a smooth day and easy recovery. #merrychristmas #itsthelittlethings #keepfighting #hopingforbetterdays
Two weeks ago I underwent one of the biggest and scariest surgeries I’ve had to face. Last year during a similar surgery I aspirated and coded. I ended up in the ICU. I should not of made it through that day, but I did. They removed more endometriosis that has continued to regrow (years after my original hysterectomy). Along with that they removed a small mass and abnormal area that was seen on my bile ducts, a cyst, removed/repaired tissue and issues in my pelvis, stomach, bladder, intestines, bowel, and more. I went into this surgery a lot weaker physically and even more so- traumatized and down mentally. I’m rarely on or sharing on social media anymore but today am begging for every good thought, positive vibe, prayer as recovery has been riddled with infections, extreme pain, and I’m just not bouncing back like I normally would have. After transitioning home and having a good day things took a huge turn. Was taken back to my surgeons main hospital due to the sudden return of intense pain and fevers. Almost fainted yesterday afternoon. Something is not right. The night began with 4 misses. 4 times having that huge Huber needle miss and go right into my body completely missing my port reservoir. I won’t even begin to explain the pain and trauma. The tears. The pent up anxiety and fear that I’m not going to recover from this.I am just so tired and so worn but my heart is still intact. Thank you for believing in me, for fighting with me, and for sharing your faith with me until I can begin finding strength again. Thank you ALL for your love. For your light. And for showing me I’ll never do any of this alone. Seeing one of my all time favorite musicals become an incredible movie right before surgery couldn’t have happened at a better time too. Here’s to trusting my entire medical team to keep me safe and to help me #defygravity šŸ’ššŸ©·šŸŖ„āœØ#fighting #betterdaysarecoming #findingstrength
Fighting Sepsis (2 different bacterial infections) that have spread to my blood after a month or more of feeling ā€œoffā€. 1 strain is resistant to many antibiotics and is proving to be difficult to treat. A couple weeks ago my heart appeared unaffected but has since changed. They did a procedure to look at it closer to see if the infection has spread there. Over the last 48 hours my liver and kidneys are suddenly really struggling and I’ve become very anemic. For the first time ever I’ve been unable to respond to texts, messages, emails, etc for weeks. My body is so tired. Please pray that I can find strength where it feels there is none. Thank you to those who’ve sent the kindest messages that I’m just seeing now. For the flowers, cards, but most of all for the love. Trying to find some happiness and hope, anywhere. I was up and walking today and was more awake. which felt really good! But the cultures continue to grow. Why?? 😢 I’m scared. I’ve beat this 3x already but this time around is different. I’m just so tired. One day at a time. #sepsis #fight šŸ’ŖšŸ¾ #onedayatatime #faithoverfear
They say if the sun ā˜€ļø don’t find you, keep dancing in the rainšŸŒ§ļø. I’m gonna hold on, hold onto this feeling. I’m gonna hold on, hold onto it tight. And then I will hold on stronger through these seasons…and as we move from dark to light- love will be our guide. #šŸ‹ #danceintherain #betterdaysarecoming #nevergiveup
It has been an extremely trying two weeks. Intubated twice, failed sedations, lots of tears, no real sleep in days, so much medication, lots of pain, home care, then catching pneumonia -but also so many hugs, so many amazing nurses and doctors. Lots of trauma and feeling so overwhelmed and scared but so thankful for all of the love. Waking up out of surgery and then feeling like I couldn’t breathe and that I was dying was one of the scariest moments of my life. I’m thankful to be here. They don’t know why I got fluid in my lungs, coded, or why this time around has been so hard- but the love and support shown has brought me so much comfort. I have my go fund me back up as Im unable to work. I appreciate everyone who has helped give, asking for help is incredibly difficult for me. My body continues to fight so hard and I don’t know how or where it even gets the energy. My mind is so tired and I’m so exhausted. This recovery has been very backwards and I’m suffering a lot. I want to be out of pain and able to eat. Missing Thanksgiving and now so many upcoming holiday plans with loved ones has been painful too. Is it normal to be replaying November 22nd in my mind constantly? Hoping and praying for better days soon. #betterdaysarecoming #holdingon
A couple hours into recovery she started developing complications and had to be re-intubated. Her original post: Please pray for me. This will be my 50th surgery/procedure but it doesn’t get any easier. I am so terribly scared today. This is a very big procedure and even with a friend here - my anxiety is so high. This past week is exactly 10 years since my first diagnosis. 3652 days fighting and 3652 borrowed days. Two incredible surgeons and so many amazing nurses. Thank you to Dr. Guthman who came out to just give me a hue and reassurance. I know they will take care of me- but I’m still scared. #faithoverfear
