Aujourd’hui, la forêt de Bwindi célèbre un heureux événement: la famille Mukiza s’agrandit! Ce nouveau-né n’a que 4 jours lorsque je l’aperçois. Adossée contre un amas de branches et de lianes, la mère caresse son bébé, blotti contre son torse, lui offrant ainsi sécurité et amour. À bonne distance, je les observe. Soudain, elle se lève en tenant fermement son petit qui s’accroche tant bien que mal au pelage de sa mère. À cet instant je me dis que je dois sûrement les déranger… mais il n’en est rien. Elle décide, à ma grande surprise, de s’approcher et même de s’allonger à quelques mètres devant moi comme pour me montrer sa progéniture. Seul un talus nous sépare. Calme et sereine, la mère ferme les yeux délicatement tout en prodiguant à son petit quelques gestes d’affection.
Ce moment de vie, dans l’intimité de cette forêt profonde et dense, me délivre pendant quelques minutes un pur bonheur que j’ai rarement ressenti durant mes nombreux voyages.
Today, the Bwindi forest is celebrating a happy event: the Mukiza family is growing! This newborn is only four days old when I spot it. Leaning against a pile of branches and vines, the mother caresses her baby, snuggled against her chest, offering it safety and love. I watch them from a safe distance. Suddenly, she stands up, holding her little one tightly as he clings to her coat. At that moment, I think to myself that I must be disturbing them... but that’s not the case. To my surprise, she decides to come closer and even lies down a few meters in front of me, as if to show me her offspring. Only a slope separates us. Calm and serene, the mother gently closes her eyes while lavishing her little one with affectionate gestures.
This moment of life, in the intimacy of this deep, dense forest, gives me a few minutes of pure happiness that I have rarely felt during my many travels.
