Magpie and the Spakling Words

Written by Lucy Rowland
Illustrated by Craig Shuttlewood
Published by

โ€œIn a mystical wood stood a magical tree with a magpie who puffed out her chest, as she listened to whispers of wonderful words and picked out the best for her nest.โ€

This enchanting story is bursting with the most wonderful vocabulary and honestly, who doesnโ€™t love the word discombobulated?
The story follows a magpie whose love of collecting beautiful, sparkling words eventually leaves the woodland silent and causes trouble amongst the other animals. Through friendship, teamwork, kindness, and sharing, she learns that words are even more special when shared with others.

This book is an absolute joy to read and a brilliant way to help develop childrenโ€™s vocabulary while inspiring creativity and confidence in their own writing.

The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous too. The woodland animals are beautifully drawn, and the tiny details throughout really help bring those sparkling words to life โœจ

I also loved the glossary at the back, which is perfect for helping children understand the meanings of new and exciting words.

This would make a wonderful addition to both home and school libraries, and I can definitely imagine it being used before creative writing lessons to spark imagination and discussion.

A truly magical read ๐Ÿ’ซ

National Geographic Kids books

We absolutely love these books from National Geographic Kids ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿ˜

Perfect for animal-loving children, dinosaur fans, or little ones who are full of questions and curiosity! Each book is packed with fun and engaging facts that make learning exciting.

Little Miss especially enjoyed the fun first board book animal range. She is animal mad, and they are filled with fun facts, things to spot and count, and have been brilliant for supporting her curiosity, counting skills, animal knowledge, speech, and language development. Iโ€™m amazed at how many animals she now recognises.

She even got her animals out and sorted them next to the book she thought they should be in. It was so lovely to see her making connections and engaging with the books in her own way.

The large, colourful, high-quality photos covering every page make them super engaging for little readers too. โœจ

These books really do inspire curiosity and would make a fantastic addition to any home or school library. Ours have already been read countless times, and I know Iโ€™ll be using them in the classroom as well to support different topics and learning opportunities. ๐Ÿ“–

The Kingdom Of Colourful Feelings

โ€˜The Kingdom of Colourful Feelingsโ€™ is a lovely childrenโ€™s book that follows Clara and Leo on an adventure through the Kingdom of Colourful Feelings. Along the way, they meet a range of wonderful creatures who help them explore different emotions and learn ways to manage their feelings.

This book truly provides children with a learning toolkit and would be perfect for both home and classroom use. I really enjoyed it. It is such a great read for little ones, and I love the way it offers strategies to support emotional literacy in a simple and accessible way.

The illustrations are beautiful and really help bring the emotions and characters to life, making it easy for children to connect with the story.

The accompanying resources are also fantastic for classroom use, especially the check-in posters. Together, the book and resources would make a perfect addition to a calm corner and a brilliant support tool for emotional literacy ๐Ÿ˜Š I canโ€™t wait to add it to my tranquil trolley.

Weโ€™re going on a Dino Hunt

Written by Yasmin Bond
Illustrated by
Published by

If your little one loves the classic Weโ€™re Going on a Bear Hunt and dinosaurs, then Weโ€™re Going on a Dino Hunt is such a fun read ๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿ’š

This book follows the adventures of a group of children on the hunt for a dinosaur. They come across yappy, happy dogs, furry, purry cats and a few other creatures along the way, but do they ever find a dinosaur? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฆ•

Little Miss has absolutely loved this book this week and I think weโ€™ve read it about 20 times already ๐Ÿคฃ She loves joining in with all the repetitive phrases and adventures through the story.

It has a very similar style and rhythm to Weโ€™re Going on a Bear Hunt, which makes it so fun and engaging for little ones to follow along with ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

The bright, colourful illustrations really keep little ones engaged and thereโ€™s even a dinosaur shadow to spot on every page, which makes it extra fun. Her favourite part is definitely the mum and dad dressed up as dinosaurs ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฆ•

A playful, giggly story with a lovely ending thatโ€™s perfect for little dinosaur fans and great for children aged 2+ ๐Ÿ’•
