Perhaps the most striking feature, in medieval Gornji Grad, Zagreb's Upper Town is St. Mark's Church, easily recognizable by the brightly colored tile roof bearing the coats of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia, Slavonia, and Zagreb City.

Be sure to also pop inside for a look at the stunning interior with its statues by famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic, along with frescoes painted by Jozo Kljakovic.

The wide diversity and cultural identity make European cities special. The splendid cobblestone streets and red-tiled roofs of the buildings in medieval Gornji Grad, Zagreb's Upper Town, make for a beautiful place to begin a sightseeing tour of the Croatian capital.

Once two separate towns known as Kaptol and Gradec, Gornji Grad is home to many of the city's most visited tourist attractions, including the cathedral, parliament building, and numerous museums and churches.

Historic Stone Gate (Kamenita Vrata) and Chapel of Zagreb 🕊️🙏.

Stone Gate (Kamenita Vrata) is the last of five original city gates, and also found in Upper Town. Built in the 13th century, the building famously survived a fire in 1731, as did its painting of Mary and Jesus.

To commemorate the important relic, a chapel was built to house the painting, which has been the subject of pilgrimages ever since and can still be seen behind a metal grille.

Love, love is the most precious emotion for the mankind ❣️. This moment captured in front of Academy of Music, University of Zagreb is my favorite shot in the last year.

I felt it very relevant during this time of war mongering rulers. Let peace be up on us 🕊️.

Zagreb Cathedral, on the Kaptol, is a Roman Catholic cathedral-church and not only the second tallest building in Croatia but also the most monumental sacral building in Gothic style southeast of the Alps.

It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and to kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus. In 1093 when King Ladislaus I of Hungary ) moved the bishop's chair from Sisak to Zagreb, he proclaimed the existing church as a cathedral. Construction on the cathedral started shortly after his death and was finished in 1217 and consecrated by king Andrew II of Hungary.

Its prominent spires are considered to be landmarks as they are visible from most parts of the city.

The cathedral was damaged in the 2020 earthquake on 22 March, in which the tip of its southern spire broke off and crashed onto the roof of the adjacent Archbishop's Palace (Second picture).

Slavín is a memorial monument and military cemetery in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

It is the burial ground of thousands of Soviet Army soldiers who fell during World War II while taking over the city in April 1945 from the occupying German Wehrmacht units.

It is situated on a hill amidst a rich villa quarter of the capital and embassy residences close to the centre of Bratislava.

It was constructed between 1957 and 1960 on the site of a field cemetery, and opened on April 3, 1960 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the city's liberation.

The monument was constructed similar in kind to the Palace of Culture and Science in Stalinist architectural style. Its designer was Ján Svetlík.
