Had been eyeing since forever and finally made it.

Funnily, I remember eating a lot of bread in Japan but not specifically Shiopan. May be it was just a usual bread there a decade ago. I know on my next trip I will be looking for it!

And somebody else recently shared that for them Japanese books are light reads and it got me thinking - I never found them light. They are very deep in fact, also nostalgic given my life and travels there.
It’s like that society has strong layers. I’ll never be at the crux of it. I would have to be born Japanese for it. Damn it. But I think of myself as somewhere in between. And that probably makes it intense enough.
It’s interesting how the same book can be so different for different people, based on how much you already know, how much you can read between the lines and just how much can fill in with unsaid things mentally!
It all started with book club that got me into reading.
And the Japanese bookathon with Butter by. They said don’t judge a book by its cover but I totally did and and I’m glad I did. I love butter, I love yellow and I love Japan. That was enough to keep me thinking about it after one sight for a month when I travelling to Indonesia.
I came back from my trip, craving for silence. And that took me to after forever. I bought Butter. I figured I wanted to write about food the way Ayako San did. Yes of course, I ate freshly made rice, with cold butter and little bit of Shoyu the moment I read how she wrote about it - through her words and then literally. Yum was an understatement.
And after that, many more visits to that book store, many more Japanese authors and many more ‘read’y nights!
,, Mizuki Tsujimura, Michiko Aoyama, Sanaka Hiragi and and all of them have just taken me deeper in Japanese culture!
I always dreamt of travelling with the cats ever since I got them. Did the travel training and figured flying with them by myself was not even possible! So I waited and waited for this opportunity!

But my requests were - between Kyoto and Toyama, there should be snow, there should be outdoor onsen and this was February!
And it was exactly what I found at in Yamanaka onsen! River view onsen, private onsen, sauna, massive tatami room and snow clad streets and mountains around.
I signed up for a typical ryokan dinner and breakfast that showcased specialities from the region! Uff and I was so full!
I grabbed a sake ice cream when I went for a little stroll!
