β¨
In 2023, when I became pregnant and planned moving our new family back to Tulum, I imagined raising our child among a global circle of mothers, artists, creators, healers, and community builders whom I deeply admired.
Akal was one of them.
β¨
Then life unfolded differently.
After losing my son, the future I imagined disappeared.
Yet three years later, it was that loss that led me back to the very community I once dreamed of being part of.
β¨
In March 2026, I returned to Tulum after a four-year absence to serve as photographer in residence at.
A few days later, the vision for the Creators of Worlds photography series arrived.
β¨
And when I thought about who should open the series, the answer was immediate:
Akal.
β¨
Despite the many titles she carriesβfounder of, doula, teacher, dancer, yogi, ceremony leader, wife, and motherβ
Akal embodies something greater than any of those roles.
β¨
She is one of those rare women who can hold an entire community together through the strength of her presence.
She guides people through celebration, joy, grief, and uncertainty.
β¨
When I think of Akal, what stands out most is not only how deeply she understands transition.
It is that her medicine is dance.
β¨
Birth. Death.
Celebration. Grief.
Ceremony.
They are all transitions.
And so is dance.
β¨
Dance is one of humanityβs oldest languages.
Long before we had words, we moved our bodies to celebrate, grieve, heal, and pray.
β¨
The African dance Akal practices and teaches feels especially powerful because it is a living tribal prayer.
Bare feet meeting the earth.
A body moving in rhythm with forces older than memory.
β¨
Dance is a practice that awakens the remembering of our connection to Mother Earthβ
the sacred holy land that gives life, receives life, and sustains us through every season of becoming.
β¨
I knew I wanted our photo session to take place in the beloved yoga shala at, where I had photographed so many Tulum characters over the years.
β¨
Before the shoot, Akal created an altar.
She lit copal, blessed the cam
YOU BRING BACK HOPE.
Hope in a new world, in a new humanity that takes care of each other.
I open & close the live set of my brothers & with prayers. Thank you amores, for being man of example, man with big hearts, with kind hearts, with loving & sensitive energy, man that empower & respect women. Que placer compartir la vida con ustedes β€οΈβπ₯
Art is not entertainment, art is more powerfull than that. Music is joy, gratitud, celebration, expression, feelings, music is prayers.
What you see on the last video, is a prayer for woman liberation.
I went and ask each of one of the women of sharamania after a heart warming women circle, what old structure they want to burn, and what new structure they want to uplift. I wanted to be their voice & amplify it on the dance floor, so all those feelings are set free.
May all women finally step on their power, with grace, with joy, with love, in harmony.
May we uplift each other always. May we burn everything that holds us back from enjoying life, from being authentic, from being powerfull, from being creative.
We have to liberate ourselves, so can liberate others. Our role in this point of humanity in KEY, and we cannot play little no more, we came to bring this world up, with our kindness, with our strength, with our creativity, with our sensitivity, with our sensuality, with our energy. Donβt be afraid to take that space, donβt be afraid to be big, donβt be afraid to shine. Itβs been too long.
I see you, I love you πβ¨π
Thank you for bringing this beautiful tribe together, and remain us that there is hope, that we are the change. Iβm so happy to be part of such an amazing family.
Thank you for this magical space, a land with so much love & power. It was a pleasure to be held in this land, and all of the teams hearts.
Thank you hermana for catching us in the flow. Your eye is exquisite π
With love & hope

I have loved this brand for years. Ever since I discovered its dresses in shop in Tulum, Iβve been completely enchanted by the worlds this designer creates through fabric.
Hereβs where this story turns to magicβ¨
A week before arriving in Ibiza, I was walking in London with my friend, talking about work and projects, when she randomly shared the story of how she met this one designer Yvonne years ago. I told her I actually own one of her dresses and brought it with me on the trip. Judith explained how after some unsuccessful attempts to reach Yvonne, for a collaboration with her company, they eventually found themselves seated next to each other at a dinner completely by chance. Thatβs how they finally met.
Fast forward one week. The day before my birthday,I wore the dress to my friend Yevaβs post-wedding gathering at her house in Ibiza.
The next day, on my actual birthday, while wandering through Ibiza Town with friends, I accidentally walked into Yvonneβs pop-up shop. And there she was, live in person, with her equally wonderful partner Mariel! Unpretentiously fabulous and wearing the same beige LA baseball cap I always wear to keep my crazy hair from exploding out of my head.
We chatted about our serendipitous connection through Tulum and Judith, about authenticity and beauty at every age. It was the kind of conversation that felt less like meeting someone for the first time and more like picking up a thread that was already waiting along the way.
What made it so meaningful was that none of the events of my birthday were planned.
A hike along the cliffs of northern Ibiza.
Swimming naked in the Mediterranean.
Friends singing and laughing at silly jokes.
Before we left, Yvonne gifted me a yellow bandana that I now wear around my wrist to remind me that life is far more magical than anything we could possibly plan.
Thank you Yvonne and Mariel for the warmth and inspiration. I look forward to the delightful day our paths cross again πβ¨

This story actually began in 2021, during my transition out of Tulum to a more permanent base in Mexico City. Around the same time, Maxine had just moved to Tulum to begin building her own new chapter. I knew her mostly from a distance and through a few stories our mutual friends had shared about her.
During that period, I was struck by a powerful dreamlike vision. In my mindβs eye, I saw a mysterious ethereal being hovering above me like a bird in flight. Suspended in the air, she stared down from the tree canopies with large, penetrating eyes, watching the world below with a gaze full of care and love. The image stayed with me for years. I even tried sketching it, convinced it would become a painting one day.
Fast forward to March 2026, is when the story continued. I arrived in Tulum on March 1 to begin an artist residency at that Maxine had invited me to participate in. It was there, shortly after my arrival, that we finally had the chance to sit down for dinner and share stories of our lives directly from the source. Turned out, just like me, she had lived many distinct chapters and played different roles, transforming herself each time into an entirely new person.
Brazilian and Mexican lineage. Childhood split between countries. Parsons School of Design. Photographer in Brooklyn. Painter in Rio de Janeiro. Aerial gymnast in a circus in New York. Mother of two precious little girls in Tulum. Visionary and builder of β a place that has become a home, creative sanctuary, and gathering space for remote workers, dreamers, artists, performers, and travelers from around the world.
Creative and CEO. Executive Maxine.

Returning to a few weeks ago felt like stepping back into an earlier chapter of my photographer life βa time when this house was just built inside a hidden world in the biosphere, and I was the photographer bringing it into visibility through images.
For some years it became the home base for my dream life in Tulum, and many of my earlier photoshoots between 2012β2017 were hosted there.
Thanks to Philβs huge heart and generous support, I used to invite talented friends, designers, and brand owners to spend weekends at the house, photographing our beloved Caribbean jungle lifestyle with their creations modeled by other inspiring friends/muses.
Between shoots we swam in the ocean (some kite surfed π, ate incredible food so lovingly prepared by Marisol & her family, marveled at sunsets kayaking or paddle boarding on the lagoon side βwatching birds and sky reflections dissolve into the gently moving water.
So much precious time savored those years amidst raw, almost untouched nature βcreating, cooking, laughing, playing music, dancing to DJ & musician friendsβ sets, living inside the rhythm dictated by the Mayan time zone π
And now, years later, to arrive at again during my final weekend in Tulum βand find it filled with music, movement, beauty, and a whole new wave of people sharing their giftsβ¦ It felt deeply full circle.
A different time, yet the same love, joy, vitality, and gratitude for life.
Moving through the spaces with my camera, reconnecting with familiar faces while meeting so many new ones, I flowed in that subtle in-between place β between past and present, observer and participant.
I felt so grateful to life for reminding me that simply being present and following the magnetic energy pull of pure desire β leads to magic.
That nothing is lost β only transformed.
Thank you to and for our spontaneous collaboration that Sunday. Thank you for your magic. And thank you Farah and Douglas for stewarding Casa Maya Kaβan with such love πππΌβ¨
Thank you for helping me to manifest this dream photoshoot πͺπ€π¨

Naturally, I had to photograph Nour and her glorious energy during sunrise, in that soft light of the slowly unfolding Caribbean morning.
Nour β co-founder of community experiences in Basel along with her partner β is a speaker, teacher, and guide,
a mother, a partner in a conscious relationship,
and a woman devoted to her path of feminine embodiment.
Through her work β including the breathwork journeys I personally experienced β she helps people shed layers of conditioning, pain, and trauma, reconnect to who they truly are, and gently illuminate the hidden corners of their being.
Like the sun itself, Nourβs authentic presence warms the space for others to step in and shine β including me as a photographer ππΌ

While here, Iβll be developing a new portrait series titled Creators of Worlds β a project honoring women who are my personal heroes, whose creativity, vision, and leadership shape the communities around them.
Over the coming weeks, Iβll be quietly photographing a series of conceptual portraits inspired by the unique worlds these women have created and the beautiful qualities they embody.
During my residency, Iβll also be available for private session bookings for those who feel called to collaborate β whether for personal brand, lifestyle, or portrait photography created in my signature natural, elegant, cinematic style.
Grateful to be creating in this beautiful place that has been my home for over 16 years, and to be part of a community so dear to my heart β¨
