For this 25,000 sqft home in Noida, we didn’t want the guest rooms to feel like rooms that were added in at the end. We wanted each one to feel special in its own way, while still feeling like part of the same home.

• The first thing you notice in both rooms is the wall behind the bed. One room has an arched backdrop with painted palms and birds around it, while the other uses a large artwork-inspired panel. It’s a simple way to give each room its own character.

• We did the same thing with the wardrobes. One room has floral wallpaper, a carved dressing table, and a more decorative feel. The other is much simpler, with stitched wardrobe shutters and a mirror that becomes the main feature.

• Even the bathrooms feel completely different. One leans into marble and darker finishes, while the other brings in patterned tiles, colour, and a more playful mirror. They serve the same purpose, but the experience of using them feels completely different.

One thing we enjoyed most about these rooms was giving guests options. Depending on which room you stay in, the experience feels slightly different, even though both rooms belong to the same house. Which one would you pick for yourself? Let us know in the comments below!

We used these mosaic tiles in one of our recent projects and honestly they are one of the trickiest things to get right on site. The mesh they come on is flexible, so the moment a worker presses it directly onto the wall, the joints shift and you end up with lines going all over the place instead of staying straight. And once it is grouted and done, there is really no fixing it.

So here is what we actually do. We first paste the mesh tile sheet flat onto a plain base tile using adhesive, let it set completely straight and rigid, and only then stick that whole unit onto the wall. For curved surfaces we cut the mosaic into smaller pieces first, paste those onto the base tile, and then lay it. It is a tile on tile method and it takes more time but the joints come out perfectly even every single time.

Have you used mosaic tiles before or does your contractor have a different way of doing this? I would love to know in the comments below!

With, one thing I’ve always appreciated is that he never lets himself stay stuck for too long.

There have been so many moments where things were new or unfamiliar, and instead of getting intimidated by it, he’s always been willing to put himself out there and learn. I think that says a lot about a person.

He’s just very easy to work with. Also, slight throwback to the ā€˜Guess the Voice video’ where I somehow guessed almost every other voice as Akash’s. Someone even said he should add it to his CV. Honestly, fair enough.

Akash, I’ve really loved seeing how much more confident you’ve become over the years. So happy you’re part of EA and very excited to see what you do next.

Designing the daughter’s suite in this 25,000 sqft home was fun because we didn’t want the room to feel too predictable. We wanted it to reflect her personality, so here’s what we did for this room:

• The mural behind the bed was one of the first things we locked in because it already adds so much to the room. Once that came in, we kept the furniture shapes more curved and easier on the eye so everything didn’t start competing with each other.

• You’ll notice curves in a lot of places here, from the bed back to the sofa and even the coffee table. In bigger rooms, shapes like these help large furniture feel less bulky and make the room feel a lot more inviting.

• We carried these details into the rest of the suite, too. The arched wardrobe shutters add character to what could have just been plain storage, while the bathroom uses stronger colours, patterned flooring, and statement ceilings, so each area feels different without looking like it belongs to another house.

And because this is more than just a bedroom, we added spaces around how someone would actually use the room day to day. A larger walk-in, a yoga and dance room, spa space, and lounge corners that make the whole suite feel more personal. What are your thoughts on this room? Let us know if you liked it as much as we did!

Designing for grandparents comes with one rule: comfort cannot be compromised. In this 6500 sq ft Noida home, the grandmother’s bedroom threw us a tricky problem, and here’s how we solved it:

• The automation panel needed wall depth, but pushing the wall forward would’ve eaten into the floor space around the bed, which isn’t an option in a room meant for someone who spends most of their day here

• Circulation space around the bed matters more in a grandparent’s room, for ease of movement, for a walker if ever needed, for that breathing room that makes a space feel restful

• Instead of moving the wall, we held it back and created a 3-4 inch recessed pocket to chase the automation wiring through

• The headboard was custom-designed to sit only one inch thick, slotting neatly into that offset without losing any floor area

The bed sits exactly where it was meant to, the room reads full, and the automation works quietly behind the scenes. This is the part of design people don’t always see, the small workarounds that make the final space feel effortless.

Would you have noticed this if we hadn’t pointed it out? Tell me in the comments.

This mandir sits inside an 11,000 sq ft classical-inspired home in Goa. We’ve designed quite a few mandirs over the years, but what always makes them special is when the space reflects the people living in the home.

For this one, the brief from our clients was very clear. They wanted to feel completely transported when they entered the mandir.

• So we worked closely with to hand-paint murals based on themes that meant something to our clients personally.
• We also added all the 3D detailing because they wanted the walls to have more depth and texture, rather than everything feeling flat.
• The rose quartz behind the mandir was added to tie together some of the softer colours, and because the house already has a lot of classical detailing throughout, we had to constantly balance how much detail to add and where to stop.
• Even the storage here was planned around everyday rituals, so everything they need stays close by but tucked away. did an amazing job with building the Mandir portion out

What do you guys think of how this mandir has turned out? Let us know in the comments.

I think in most Indian homes, some of the best conversations happen around the dining table. People sit there long after the food is over, someone’s making coffee, someone’s still eating slowly, and nobody is in a rush to leave. Which is why dining spaces matter so much while designing a home.

For this 20,000 sq ft rental holiday home in Nashik, we wanted this space to bring lots of people together without feeling too formal. A lot of the decisions here came from thinking about how people actually eat and spend time together. Instead of putting a rug under the dining table, we used SPC flooring to visually separate the space because it’s much easier to maintain in a holiday home like this.

The dining table was also made extra wide because when Indian families eat together, there’s usually food all across the centre of the table and you genuinely need the space for it. We also kept the wash area and coffee setup really close to the dining because realistically, that’s where everyone ends up going right after a meal anyway.

More than anything, we just wanted this area to feel comfortable enough that people naturally spend time here without thinking about it too much. What do you guys think of how this dining space has turned out? Let us know in the comments below!

One of the most common questions I still get asked is,
ā€œHow do you manage so many projects, in so many places?ā€
And my answer hasn’t changed.
I have the best team in the world. ā¤ļø

2025 was a big year for us at Essajees Atelier. The team grew to 60, the scale of our work expanded, and so did the way we work and show up every single day. What stayed constant was the culture we’ve worked so hard to build.

I’ve always believed that when your team feels supported, everything else falls into place. Over the years, I’ve seen such a clear connection between the energy we invest in our people and the quality of work we create.

My role has slowly become smaller, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of. This studio works because the team is empowered and deeply invested in doing excellent work.
Every idea, every deadline, every small win is possible because of the people behind it.

Grateful every single day for these rockstars.
And very excited about what we’re building next.

It’s been a while, so to those people who don’t know me, I’d love to introduce myself. My name is Sarah Sham, and I’m the Principal Designer at Essajees Atelier. I started this studio in 2014, and my goal is to be doing the best design work in the world with the best team.

I majored in Art History at Duke University in the US, and studied 19th century French Art for a year at Oxford University in the UK. I came back to India, and joined my father at my fourth generation, 130 year old family business,. Essajee was the name of my great grandfather, Mr Abdul Kader Essajee Sham (pronounced eee-sah-ji).

At Essajees, I worked in the projects division for 5 years with the world’s top design studios on the execution of some incredible projects including large homes and five star hotels. I realised my true passion was interior design and so I went back to school at Rachna Sansad, Mumbai, where I completed my interior design education and finished the course at the top of my class with a first class first distinction. I called my studio Essajees Atelier as a nod to my background and roots. As the saying goes, the rest is history.

We now are doing half a million sqft of spaces across multiple countries and another office in Dubai under the brand for the Middle East and Africa.

I started out my journey on social media with a goal to share everything openly. No gatekeeping here. We also have formed designer communities across 110 cities with over 12,000 sign ups for principal designers, with the singular goal to share information and collaborate, because I really think we all grow stronger together.

In my personal life, I am a mom of two little girls aged 2 and 5, and two female indie dogs. I am also obsessed with working out and food. I am happily married to an ex tennis pro,, who now heads up a fund that invests in the sports and gaming space called Centre Court Capital.

Thanks for being here on my page, and I hope you enjoy what we put out here!
I had the honour of being invited by Apple to do a one-on-one walkthrough with Tim Cook, to explain the significance of Indian art, design and architecture. We spoke in depth about the philosophies of Charles Correa, courtyard homes, types of Indian artefacts, the principles of Vaastu and various inspirations in Indian design. Tim has a simple, uncomplicated energy around him, one that I was drawn to immediately; seeing his clear interest in the topic was so encouraging. I fully realise that today I got a massive opportunity to share my deep love and passion with a very influential person who holds the power to shape the world of design, and it’s a moment I will not forget.

Coming from 4 generations and 130 years of history with art and antiques seemed to really pay off today. All the time I have spent learning about design with my grandfather, then my father, 4 years of university at Duke studying Art History, 2 years of an interior design education, 1 year at Oxford studying more art and 14 years of work in the field of design all seemed to culminate in this incredible morning with Tim ā¤ļø

Today was a good day, a very very good day. Universe, what do you have for me next? I’m ready and waiting with open arms. Bring it on šŸ˜Ž
