This sculpture is part of Sanctuary, an installation that constructs a spatial and psychological dispositif structured by jealousy, disorientation, and subconscious mediation.
At its core is the film Mask, where a child’s perception of familial conflict does not stabilize into narrative, but fragments into discontinuous image sequences. Representation gives way to a system of recurrence, displacement, and instability.
The sculptural heads extend this logic into three dimensions.
Constructed from cardboard and paint, they foreground their own provisionality. The material resists illusion and instead insists on process, contingency, and assembly. This fragility is counterposed by their heavy bases, which introduce a temporal dimension — memory as weight, as sedimentation.
Embedded within each sculpture is a real eye.
Its visibility is contingent upon proximity. With this, the work reorganizes the relation between subject and object: perception is no longer unidirectional. The viewer becomes implicated in a reciprocal field of vision.
The sculpture does not function as representation, but as a mediating structure — an interface between perception, memory, and projection.
Sanctuary opens June 2 at, Istanbul.
