Komorebi is the Japanese word for sunlight filtering through leaves, creating ever-changing patterns of light and shadow.
The Komorebi Experiment transforms this fleeting natural phenomenon into a small-scale audiovisual performance. Moving lights, motors, lamps and electronic circuits generate patterns of light, movement and electromagnetic activity, which are captured and translated into sound.
Psychedelic piano, modular synthesizers, ASMR-like textures, building lights and electromagnetic recordings merge into an evolving environment where light becomes sound, sound becomes vibration, and vibration becomes physical.
The work explores the space between nature and technology, asking whether the feeling of sunlight moving through leaves can be recreated by translating its behaviour into another sensory language.
Sunlight → Leaves → Flickering Light → Nervous System → Electricity → Electromagnetic Field → Sound → Music
A sensory experiment at the intersection of light, electricity, perception and music. Lighting is designed with consideration for stroboscopic safety and photosensitive epilepsy. #errorinstruments

We created a Eurorack module that feels like a piece of sound-generating machinery straight out of an old electronics lab.
Sonically, it moves from raw, razor-sharp drones to delicious liquid textures, unstable tones, and wild noise.
Pair the built-in sensor with different light sources, twist the knobs, experiment with control voltage, and discover your own sweet spots and happy accidents.
With its built-in Lopez gate, it can also take on a percussive role. Feed a trigger into the gate input, and turn this strange machine into an unexpected drum voice.
And then there’s the beautiful 1950s-style VU meter, glowing with that unmistakable vintage laboratory charm.
A little science. A little chaos. A lot of sonic exploration.

The Komorebi Experiment
Komorebi is the Japanese word for the magical feeling of sunlight flickering through the leaves of a tree.
This experiment translates that natural phenomenon into sound and light. Stroboscopic lights, motors and electromagnetic frequencies interact with a psychedelic piano and modular synthesizer, creating an audiovisual experience somewhere between nature and technology.
A small performance where light becomes sound, electricity becomes music, and nature becomes frequency.Paul Tas (errorinstruments) 北京现场演出 —— 10月23日,798艺术区
“Komorebi(木漏れ日)”实验
“Komorebi”是一个日语词汇,形容阳光透过树叶缝隙洒下时那种充满魔力的光影意境。
这项实验将这一自然现象转化为声音与光影。频闪灯、马达与电磁频率装置,与迷幻风格的钢琴及模块化合成器相互交织,营造出一种介于自然与科技之间的视听体验。
这是一场小型的现场演出:光影化作声响,电流演变为音乐,自然则转化为频率。#errorinstruments #artperformance #noisemusic #experimentalmusic #soundart
With its 70 different waveforms, you can scroll through and discover all kinds of happy accidents as the waveforms interact and manipulate each other. You can control the machine with light, touch, control voltage via Eurorack, or simply scroll and explore.
The little vinyl crackers can produce some seriously high-pitched noises — and that’s part of the fun. 😄

BEIJING LIVE MODULAR COMMUNE — CHINA
Friday 23 October
Founder of Error Instruments, Paul Tas, presents a live experimental project exploring sound, light, movement, and electromagnetic fields.
We’ll experiment with motorised oscillators and flashing stroboscopes, creating a shifting field of sound and electromagnetic activity controlled by light. The setup will combine modular synthesis, piano, motors, oscillators, and stroboscopic light into one experimental environment.
An exploration somewhere between sound installation, live electronics, and performance — using physical movement, electricity, light, and vibration to create an evolving sonic field.
An experiment. A performance. A living system.
