Food, particularly fruit & vegetables, might be my favorite material to work with. It’s nature, but many people don’t experience it as such every day. The relationship we have with food is so intimate from our literal birth. It’s playful from the start, but we get more serious in everything as we learn what is “acceptable.” The lesson and the message is always play, play, play; joy, joy, joy - with your food and in your life. 🩵🌀
A few poolside drinks last year for. Forecast calls for summer minis 🙂‍↔️🍹 See the full edit + the others in the series in my ‘🍏TV’ highlight!
More seaglass from my latest treasure hunt. Give me anything translucent to photograph and I am locked in 🙂‍↕️🤝 Photographed on 7RV & 100mm F2.8 GM Macro.
Artist to artist (and btw I’m talking to ALL of you even those who don’t call yourselves artists): I would recommend that you follow in directions you are naturally drawn to. This is how you build a body of work.

A body of work can be:
- Silly selfies you took in waiting rooms
- Times you noticed the squelch of mud under your feet
- Audio recordings of crickets after dark
- Birthday cards you made for your friends
- The various creative toppings you put on your popcorn
- Your application videos for Survivor (I’ve made 2 so far personally)
Just my humble opinion.

If you are human, you create. You are a creator. And as a creator you have subjects you keep coming back to you, and you build on that as body of work knowingly or unknowingly. Which is beautiful. It happens naturally, usually, when there is no pressure (though in rare cases, I find that pressure can be helpful).

For me one of these subjects is water, and what is above and below water. Here are some favorites ♥️
This was the first miniature scene I made. Pillows and a blanket, shaped into an ice cave, propped against a window. I’ve always been fascinated by miniature things and Things That Look Like Other Things, pulling my sheets over my head as a kid and imagining a sledding hill or an underwater universe in the folds of the fabric. Before I started making miniatures, my first thought was just to re-create those childhood imaginings. The figurines were kind of an afterthought, just something to add a sense of scale. I didn’t want the focus on the figurines themselves, but on the scene itself, bringing you in to something that you may have imagined but never seen as tangible, made by hands and experience and texture and frustration and joy, (and specifically not by AI). I’m delighted to still be making them over five years later, both commercially and for personal work. They have never felt like a replacement of the work I “used to” do, but an addition, widening the range, just another color in my palette. Glad so many of you have found me through these little works, which feel anything but little to me. From one big kid to another. 🌀 #ourgreatindoors #miniatureart #creativephotography
