Back in December, bryant terry invited Erica Deeman and I to participate in a Sunday Supper / Moderated Talk at the Headlands Center for the Arts.

The theme of the panel talk reflected the diversity and overlapping patterns of our ever-evolving creative practices. The lessons of the natural world: growth, incubation and rebirth were recurring subjects in the three-way discussion.

The evening also included seasonal Caribbean flavored dinner, co-created by Bryant and Headland’s Chef Damon Little. Y’all, it was good.

A sweet 49th Birthday! #PRISCILLADOBLERDZUL #CAMILLETRAUTMAN We visited as a family, Rowe now toddling through the galleries ✨😱😅

So much say about the last year, and understanding that much of it is not for this platform. I'm so grateful for the continued support of family and friends, and, the many arts communities I share. I'm learning that making as a parent is foundational for my well being. I'm feeling good about the work coming from my studio…more soon on that 💐
Excited to be sharing ‘The Two Way Dream’ with at #SFARTFAIR this week. The piece incorporates neutral density filters - usually seen behind the camera as gripping material in studio lighting. The material controls the amount of light caressing the subjects.

This body of work titled ‘Emerging States’ continues my thinking around diasporic being, belonging and, the migration of my maternal family from Jamaica to the U.K. as part of the Windrush Generation in the early 1960’s. Sending love to the Bay Area, I hope to see you soon ❤️✨
Today is my 48th birthday! Seriously, it’s been an unimaginable and rewarding solar return. So tired and, energized (can that be?!) Overall, feeling very grateful and loved from my dearests and chosen family 🤍
Words upon words, image upon image, gratitude and love for what means to me and the wider arts community as it closes today. Deep community and family were made here. I'm forever changed by the people, Andy, Chris, Allie, Seth, Mari & Ry ❤️

I was an obsessed photo student booking almost daily appointments to the ‘About Face’ exhibit when asked me if I would be interested in volunteering - the answer was of course a yes! I've been close to works foundational to the medium, been in the presence of the greats and most of all, I was discovered here and given the platform to share my work and become a working artist. This place and its people live on in me, you will be missed and become legend. Adieu and thank you ❤️
A little treacle blessed us with their arrival in September of last year! It’s been a long journey and honestly, I had released all expectation of their arrival. The last 5 years has seen me introspect, its pulsating through my practice. I’ve instigated an examination of place, identity, ground; the maps we make and offer to each other; the linage of diasporic seeds and cultivation; the act of growing when it becomes impossible to imagine. It’s a profound moment to seek a life so wholeheartedly - to have hopes dashed and then to have a dream answered.

So this little treacle, our Rowe, will be coming along with us for this continued journey of care, love and community ❤️ We are so very grateful.
‘Give Us Back Our Bones’ is now live through to December 10, 2023. This work pulls from my research on my maternal families migration from Jamaica to the U.K. as part of the ‘Windrush Generation’ and channels the land they farmed before they left and the mine where my Grandpa and Uncle worked as miners in Nottingham UK. As part of the show ‘Climate Futurism’ I layered in research inspired by farming and fishing communities on the island of Jamaica and what they are doing to ensure their sustainable futures within their changing eco systems. This includes the replanting of the coral reefs and the moving and adaptability of farming and irrigation practices. Within each fragment of dehydrated gipsum - a material I chose because it is used as an agricultural fertilizer, healing material, art material and as memory are seeds embedded and sourced from Black farmers in the US. I have called them diasporic seeds as they link geographically to the lands I call home.

Projected onto a fragments is footage of the mine, a space I visited in 2022 - a walkthrough of this space with light gestures on the coal seam. The space is imbued with the energy and sounds of my emergence from the mine into the garden I tended in 2021 in Seattle which was the hottest since records began.

I envisioned the space as a portal, a place of contemplation and reflection on a past and future journey we will make together through what, will undoubtably be, a challenging time. The future is still filled with possibilities and we must not forget that.

Shout outs to for shepherding me and my time on the west and east coast. for being an educator and curator for the project, for being inspiring and grounding at every point of the journey
(and for the conversation and naming of the work) and for the energy and knowledge shared together. If you are in NYC, I hope you get chance to visit.
I am beyond excited to be sharing these new works, now on view! #emergingstates is a collection of 25 unique pieces that continue to explore biographical and collective movements and Black becoming through the body, memory and material. They need to be seen in person!

Come celebrate with me?!!! The reception is on Thursday 14, September 5-7pm!! ✨✨✨ ✨ Hope to see you there ❤️
