Every year at Easter, a fire is lit on the Hill of Slane. Why? It is said that St. Patrick lit a fire on the hill on Easter evening to mark the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, defying the beliefs of the pagan King Laoghaire of Ireland at the Hill of Tara.
