I was born three months early and I weighed just 2lbs. I was very poorly and in hospital for months, but it’s by God’s grace, the power of prayer, and the wisdom and skill of the medical staff that I’m here today, and I’ll be forever grateful.
I studied art throughout school and went on to study Fine Art at university, but the experience wasn’t what I thought it would be. I was told I couldn’t paint portraits - we weren’t even taught HOW to paint.
But in my dorm room, with a canvas propped up against my wardrobe, I was painting portraits and taking commissions alongside my studies.
When Covid came along, I moved back home to North Wales. I knew I wasn’t enjoying my course, and I had a choice to make. I could continue down the safe path, or I could take a leap of faith and pursue my dream to become an artist.
So I dropped out of university to follow my passion. I joined a realist portrait painting course to learn traditional techniques and began sharing my work online and building my business. All the while continuing to take portrait commissions.
Amazingly, one of my videos reached 15 million views. Soon after, I was being interviewed for television, on the news, and my work even appeared on a digital billboard in Times Square in New York. My art has taken me to places I never imagined, and I feel so grateful to be able to do something I love.
I still have a long way to go and so much to learn, but I like to think I’ve learned a few things too along the way! That’s why I’ve created some painting tutorials where I share my tips and my process. The link is in my bio, or send me a message and I’ll send it over.
