Iām consumed with feelings of grief.
How can my baby be 4? Sheās just a baby? Except she isnāt and this period of my life, of my motherhood is coming to an end.
But do I want it to end?
The tiny hands, the hugs that last all night, the cries for me and me alone.
The sounds of a newborn are goneā¦ forever.
Am I ok with that? Am I ready to leave this stage of my life behind?
Maybe a third?
Is that crazy?
A bigger car, an extra bed, an extra plane ticket when we go on holiday, more food in the fridge. Can we even afford all that?
Would my marriage survive being plunged back into the haze, light and darkness of those early years? I think it would, we have done it before, butā¦ the tiredness.
The tiredness.
Could I handle it now Iām older. Old? 40.
Now or never right?
The lines are setting in, into my face and across the fertility battle fields.
WHAT DO I WANT?
Is it ok to want another but know itās not the right move for us? Can I sit in this grief and let it move through me? Will it pass or will I always wonder who might have been sent to us?
If it even worked this time.
There are no guarantees.
Here we are on the cusp of something new, my husband and I. We have got through the trenches, unchained from the tethers to early childhood. More time for ourselves and more time for our friends and more time for each other again.
I have hobbies and go to the gym- regularly! I have routine and time for creativity. The kids donāt quite need me in the same way anymore, Iām freeā¦ but why is that feeling braking my heart?
If only we had more help from family or more money or a nanny or a village or something?? Would it be posible to have a third?
Or maybe my family is complete and maybe Iām just mourning the end of this chapter?
A chapter I have loved with every inch of my heart.
Early motherhood, the most powerful transition I have ever been through.
What an honour it has been.
What a blessing to have done it twice.
And so like the waves of labour maybe itās time I surrender to the pain and see what lays for me on the other side?
A new era of motherhood awaits.

I have had some new followers recently so thought Iād do a little get to know meā¦
- I am a born and raised South Londoner who now lives by the sea in costa del Margate.
- I met my partner Mike when I was 17 which means I have now known him for over half of my life.
- I have two girls. Nova, 5, is the most naturally kind human I have ever met and Freya, 3, is full volume and loves to get the laugh.
-My favourite thing about being a photographer is that I am trained in the art of seeing. I get to spend my life noticing all the beauty that exists in this world whether that be in joy, in pain or the seemingly insignificant and that feels like an amazing privilege.
- My partner and I love to backpack, individually, as a pair and now as a family.
- We used to live in San Francisco and I still miss it every day. I wouldnāt go back though - itās the most perfect memory in my head, just the way it was.
- we also lived in a van in Central America for a year. Mexico and Guatemala were my favourite countries.
- I once sat on a scorpion whilst living in a treehouse in the jungle in Costa Rica- it was actually quite a buzz.
- I am a yogi at heart. Yoga has been the making of me and I owe all my success and joy to the practice.
- I only started photographing family and motherhood 11 months ago, before that I shot fashion campaigns.
- Changing focus was the best decision and I have fallen head over heels with my new subject. I care deeply about capturing the changing phases of motherhood. Itās intricate and profound and deserves to be seen. Iām excited to see my art grow and expand as I gain more and more experience as a mother and as a photographer.
