When I first shared my diagnosis, I asked that you please join me in praying that it was low-risk. Sadly, soon after, we learned that my AML is high-risk. This means that my chance of relapse is high and that a bone marrow transplant is necessary. I am assured that because I am young and we can be aggressive with treatment, a cure is possible for me.
Last week, I received a phone call from one of the best doctors in the world for my condition. I wonāt get into the backstory of how that conversation came to be, but know that it was certainly and undeniably divine intervention.
This afternoon, Mike and I will fly to MD Anderson in Houston, TX and I will begin another month of treatment under this new doctor. We arenāt sure how aggressive yet, as it depends on my biopsy results.
Then, I will come home for two weeks, and return to Houston for my transplant, where I will stay for 4 months.
I canāt express the deep sadness, fear, and overwhelm I feel. Leaving Mike and the kids again is so painful. These coming months will be extraordinarily difficultā physically, emotionally, logistically, and financiallyā but we are doing our best to take things one day at a time.
Through this hellacious ride, I am reminded that there are glimmers of kindness and mercy woven throughout. Stillā itās hard.
Mike and I are so thankful for every prayer, kind word, meal, donation, and act of kindness that our community (near and far) has shown us. We are immensely grateful.
I love yall and will keep you posted ā¤ļø
After the events of the last week or so, no one is more shocked (or thrilled!) than I am. Thankfully, my blood counts recovered quickly, as did my energy and appetite, and I was mercifully discharged yesterday.
Coming home was magical. Not only was a welcome party waiting for me with signs and balloons and streamers when I pulled up, but our neighbors drove by in a golf cart parade to welcome me home that evening. The love I felt moved me to happy tears.
While I was gone, those neighbors (who are more like family, really) mowed our lawn, planted flowers, watered our plants, and fed our family.
So many of you sent meals, kind words, prayers, donations, and other kindnesses, big and small, that I will never be able to repay. There are so many of you to thank. Thank you, thank you, thank youā those words will never be enough. ā¤ļø
And now, the hard part: this journey is not over. We now know that it will be a marathon, and this was just the beginning. Itās going to be really tough. I will share more on that soon, but first: we pray for complete remission to be found in next weekās bone marrow biopsy.
For now, I am soaking up every beautiful minute at home with my family and friends before the next battle begins.
As always, I am so thankful for each of you ā¤ļø
I figured it would be less traumatic to do this on my own terms than to wake up each day with clumps of hair on my pillow, so I asked Mike to help me when he visited on Saturday.
He carefully helped me braid it and tie up with the ear elastics from masks so that I could donate it. And then⦠he shaved it off.
Throughout our marriage, weāve traversed some pretty harrowing trails - but weāve always done it together.
Even though he is just as devastated as I am, he comforted me like no one else could⦠assuring me that itās giving GI Jane and Sinead OāConnor, and not Gollum, like Iād feared.
If I have to do this, Iām so, so glad I have him by my side ā¤ļø
I canāt express the profound sadness and shock that the past week has brought. In a kind mercy, I was allowed to return home to be with my family on Wednesday nightā to get a plan in place for my clients, take photos with my family before I lose my hair, and most difficult of all: sharing this news with our four precious children.
I was readmitted today and will begin a month-long, inpatient stay for a very aggressive chemotherapy regimen.
If you know me, you know that I am not a stranger to hard times, or to hospitals ā but I have to admit, I really thought that I had met my quota of these things already.
I donāt know why this is happening or what the future holds, but I do know that I have the greatest family, circle of friends, and community around me that will carry me through this immensely awful journey. The Lord has sustained me during the darkest seasons of my life so far, and I have no reason to believe that He wonāt do the same for me nowā even if Iām a little resentful (understatement.) I have seen the intersection of modern medicine and prayer save my childrenās lives more than once and I believe that the same will happen for me.
If you are the praying type, I ask that you please join us in praying that my leukemia is low risk ā as it would give me the greatest chance of beating this.
My content wonāt look the same for a bit, and thatās okay.
Iām focusing on fighting hard to get home to Mike and my babies as quickly as possible ā with no evidence of disease in my body.
Thank you, friends. Iāll keep you posted. ā¤ļø
Itās certainly gotten better as Iāve gotten older, but Iāve tried a lot of trendsā from fashion to home design to hairstyles (why did I ever think that bangs were a good idea for me?) but each made me feel less like myself than the last.
Sometimes I find myself on this app and come across a trend or new design style and my initial reaction is, āoh my gosh, should I do this!?ā
But that mindset has rarely ever served me.
Fully embracing what I really love ā whatās durable, whatās in front of me, what feels right ā has made me feel more comfortable with myself and my home than any trend Iāve encountered.
Over time, Iāve learned that I can appreciate a trend without implementing it ā and stay true to my own style.
What about you? How do you feel about design trends?
