I’ve always loved printmaking - the slow process suits motherhood. Time with a baby is fragmented, woodcut builds an image slowly - drawing, carving, testing, printing, adjusting.

I know exactly where the sun is going to be at any time of the year - Penelope Seidler’s words when I visited her home last year with. We spent the day in this marvellous home where she has lived for 60 years.
A beautiful structure, designed and built together by Penelope and her husband, Harry. The home, layered with the quiet intrigues of a life shared. Keepsakes from travels rest beside Seidler’s needlepoints; beautiful furniture sits comfortably within the architecture.
I filled my sketchbook throughout the day. Light spotting across concrete and shadows stretching under floating structures. The large concrete balcony that cantilevers to the northern side of the house seemed to best display the bold shadows and lines. Behind it, gum trees from the surrounding nature reserve enhance the rareness of this Sydney abode.
To accompany the work, I had a frame made in spotted gum by allowing the painting to sit within timber as the house itself sits among the trees
“In My Grandmothers Garden” is a collection of paintings based on the flowers and plants my grandparents grew in their garden. Flannel flowers, Grevilleas, new guinea rhododendrons, Quince trees, Kangaroo paws and towering gums. Their garden occupies a place in my mind kept only for magical childhood things - a haze of whip birds, infinite pathways and cicada shells.
Two things always sat by the fly-screen door, a nutcracker for the macadamias and a wooden basket with secateurs for clipping flowers.
My paintings are imagined spaces, drawing references from last centuries ‘House and Garden’ and my memories of their Gosford home. I’ve depicted flowers growing wild outside and also within vases inside, ready for Grandma to paint in watercolour.
