This month, alongside my preparation for the trip to Rocklands, I’ve been dedicating time to developing and cleaning a new bouldering area at the foot of the Monviso massif.
An incredible venue at 2,000 meters, with breathtaking potential especially for the summer season. I’ve discovered countless beautiful and inspiring projects, and this was one of the first.
Figuring out the beta for the opening move was a real puzzle. After a lot of experimenting, I finally unlocked it with a lolotte and a knee bar. A spectacular movement unlike anything I’d ever experienced before in all my years of climbing.

Over time, it stopped being just a project. It became a routine — something that was part of every day, every season. More than 200 sessions under that boulder, trying to piece together something that never fully wanted to reveal itself. A process that was never linear. Getting closer, falling, taking steps back. Reaching the final moves, and the next day not even being able to start. “There were moments when I wanted to walk away. But what never faded was the desire to go back.”
Exodia isn’t about a single crux. It’s an 8B+ that draws you in, followed by an 8C+ that shuts you down. In between, an upside-down rest that brings your arms back — while draining everything else. “Sometimes I couldn’t tell how close I was. With this boulder… you just never know.” Until the moment it happens. When I had already told myself it was over — that’s probably when something finally shifted.

A beautiful prow climbing up through tiny razor-sharp edges. Yesterday, despite the high temperatures, I managed to get the first ascent thanks as well to the amazing crew:.

On my best attempt, I stuck the hold for a split second… then fell.
And honestly, that makes me believe even more that it’s possible.
It’s probably the hardest move I’ve ever tried somewhere around an 8b/8b+ boulder by itself. The crazy part is that you first have to climb through three already difficult moves before arriving there, and even after it, there’s still another move around 8a+ waiting for you.
This one will take time. A lot of time.
But that’s also the beauty of it. No expectations, no pressure just an absolutely stunning line, very close to home, and the motivation to keep coming back.
Some projects are more than grades.
They become an obsession.

This year I decided to put all my energy into one of the two hardest lines of the event. I came heartbreakingly close, but unfortunately my skin gave up right after the warm-up on the final day. I still gave it a go with tape, but without any real feeling in my fingertips, sticking the last unpredictable move was nearly impossible.
Still, I’m beyond grateful for all the support, the psych, and the amazing moments shared with everyone out there.
Can’t wait to come back with better conditions, healthier skin, and unfinished business on this project along with so many other incredible lines scattered across the valley.

Crazy how the rock feels glassy under your feet but razor sharp on your skin. Felt strong today, but one unlucky go from the bottom and I ended up slicing my index finger.

At the time, there were only a handful of other 8C+ boulders in existence, but Nalle had invested so much more time and energy than anything he’d done before that it felt right to suggest a new grade entirely.
Last week, made the first ascent of his long-term project Exodia, close to Rifugio di Barbara in Italy. He’s been on this line since 2021, logging more than 200 sessions on the same handful of moves. Like Nalle before him, Elias has a serious list of cutting-edge boulders behind him — many 8C+ climbs and two 9As. Like Nalle, he’d never spent so long, or had to dig so deep, to finish a problem. And like Nalle, he feels this one might sit a step above.

What a dream!
After a year and a half of attempts in a total of 35 sessions I managed to get to the bottom of this King Line.
My King Line.
It was truly a crazy fight between conditions, mind and body.
Many times I thought about throwing in the towel because I thought it was impossible to link all those extreme moves.
The boulder is divided into a first 8a Boulder movement, a second 8a (hard) Boulder movement and ends with a stand start of 8b/+…
It is incredible how it is a precise climb where every part of the body, shoe and flap of skin must deform perfectly in those minimal sandstone holds.
Regarding the grade evaluation I feel like giving it v17/9a since the intensity is very similar to that of BOD but with much more adverse environmental conditions since it is located in a valley where the humidity rate is very often at very high levels and finding the right conditions remains really difficult.
I am really happy with this climb of mine and to be able to share it with the entire climbing community.
That said, I now hope that some top climber decides to take a nice trip to southern Italy.
