- It started last Advent when I realized we didn't have a nice Advent candle holder. I asked myself, what do I really want? I often do that, taking my own home as a starting point when I design something, says Norwegian designer, who lives and works in Gothenburg.
Even though he set out to make an Advent candle holder, he didn't want it to be too Christmas-specific.
- At this time of year, we have a lot of candles at home, but in the summer we don't light candles as often. Then it can be nice to pick a simple flower or twig from a walk in the garden or forest and put it in a vase.
Daniel, who has a fondness for slender vases in which flowers could stand upright, got an idea. He set about designing a brass base, deliberately making the dimensions of the pedestals too large for candles.
- Instead, I made a set of brass tubes that are attached to the bases. Inside the tubes, a plate is soldered 2 centimeters down on one side to hold the lights in place. When you want to use the stake as a vase, you turn the tubes so that you have 19 centimeters of tube length with space to insert a flower. Soldering the inner plate makes the flower vase watertight.
