“Slop is a formally broad term. It includes both the messy, slurpy, distorted beginnings of AI as well
as the perfected, polished trompe-l’œil of the newest generation led by Nano Banana Pro. But slop is much older than AI. It starts as the human desire to express oneself and document one’s existence. It’s the camera roll of one’s first camera. The flood of innocently personal videos on early YouTube. The first saved files on Windows Paint. Slop is expression transformed into excess. It has mutated into a mass-produced filler, tumors in the server tissue.“

In a present in which visual and informational stimuli incessantly pour in on us, processes of perception are increasingly pushed under pressure. Meanings fragment, attention becomes a contested resource. SLOPPY positions itself precisely within this tension field: between algorithmic image production, mental overload, and the aesthetics of a media-saturated excess.
Slop, a term that emerged around 2022 in digital discourse, refers to the mass-produced content generated by artificial intelligence: visual and textual outputs that are formally sleek yet remain substantively empty. The exhibition does not affirm slop; instead, it renders it legible as a symptom of a boundless media regime that privileges quantity over quality, a regime in which aesthetic production becomes nothing more than a function of computational processes.
Brainrot names the cognitive consequence of this condition: perception flattens, the senses dull, and the capacity for differentiation becomes precarious under the pressure of constant simultaneity. Everything is present, yet nothing endures.
SLOPPY refuses the notion of a coherent narrative or linear dramaturgy. Instead, a heterogeneous field of aesthetic gestures emerges, in which artistic works are conceived as vectors: forces that move, overlap, and influence one another. This vectoriality points to a curatorial structure that does not arrange but rather reveals relationships, frictions, resonances, contrasts.

What happens to a body that only knows the sound of waiting? What does it mean to haunt a silence?
STAGED is a short film by vAL featuring Roderick George and Corey Scott-Gilbert in an endless loop of false starts where two nihilistic characters rally through self-reflection to interrogate their roles inside of a theatrical conundrum. In this virtual commission from Baryshnikov Arts, STAGED employs the theater itself as a reflective pool, mirroring life’s absurdities in search of a glint of horizon. Accompanied by the voice of Gus Solomons, Jr., STAGED unpacks a world of exuberant exile where rules are meant to be broken and caricatures confronted.
Perhaps hope is only elsewhere; perhaps elsewhere is already here…

AI Summary: The exhibition explores the coexistence of dissonance and harmony, prompting reflection on the emotional weight amidst destruction.

„In his solo exhibition Dissonanzen, Robert Brambora explores atmospheres of contradiction throughout a broad body of work — how we navigate, live with, and at times find ourselves inexplicably drawn to them. Spanning painting, sculpture and installation, the exhibition composes a language of contrast in which both interior and exterior spaces are implicated in states of unresolved tension.“ Excerpt of the press release by Sophie Cassel

„At a beach, bathers enact a familiar ritual. Facing the sea, backs to the land, they watch the waves foam and break as the sun makes its descent. It is a familiar scene, imaginable anywhere, at any given beach. But if, in a scene identical to this one, the sky were to darken, hinting at a distant fire, and the bathers remained unmoved, the initial harmony of the image would falter.“ Press release by Sophie Cassel
