💡According to recent research on Optimising Women’s Health at Menopause, the hormone-brain-muscle networks are primary targets for us to preserve our vitality, resilience and overall health span.

These systems don’t operate in isolation — they are deeply connected.

📑Studies in women across peri- and post-menopause show that loss of muscle mass and strength not only increases our frailty risk, it reduces our cognitive reserve. 🙃

✨✨The good news?

📑 Research consistently demonstrates that progressive resistance training and nourishing nutrition can preserve — and rebuild — muscle function and cognitive resilience, even after menopause – improving quality of life!

Now each of us are different, so embrace and support your own path, but know that muscle is a proactive signal that can recalibrate your health trajectory. 💪

That’s why - as you set your health goals for the year- I’m resharing this episode to remind you:

“What doesn’t challenge you,
doesn’t change you!”

Struggling with weight gain, low energy or loss of confidence during perimenopause or menopause?

Here’s what changed everything for me: strength training.

In the lead up to my 50th birthday, I embarked on a journey of transformation. All I really wanted was to get into a bikini again. What I didn’t know then, that I do know now, is how strength training would become my secret weapon – not just for reshaping my body, but for transforming how I experienced perimenopause and menopause.

🏋🏽‍♀️ This is what happened:
📍 Before
📍 14 weeks later
📍 2 years later

Not only did I get stronger physically, but mentally too. Strong body, strong mind has never felt so true. 💪🧠

🎙️ In this episode of MenoPositive: The Podcast, I speak with the woman who changed my life—Aoife Okonedo Martin - a personal trainer with

We explore the 3 powerful ways resistance training supports you:
• Physiologically
• Metabolically
• Psychologically

Do you want to know the secret to building lean, gorgeous muscle?

Ever feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice on strength training—low weights vs. high reps, or high weights vs. low reps? Wondering if you should stick with bodyweight exercises, or hit the gym three times a week? The real secret to developing and keeping lean muscle, especially as you prepare for—or go through—hormone shifts: Progressive Overload.

What’s progressive overload? It’s simply challenging your body a bit more each time. That could be adding one more press-up than last week, speeding up your run by a fraction, or lifting a slightly heavier weight. Over time, these small steps add up, sending signals to your body to build and maintain muscle - even when hormones are in flux.

Why do we want to build and maintain muscle? As oestrogen declines, strength training stimulates muscle building cells and bone growth. The more muscle tissue you have, the more metabolically active you are, helping to keep insulin resistance down, which helps keep weight down. Never mind the positive boost to mood and energy levels!

💡 Did you know strength training not only supports physical health, but also boosts metabolic and psychological well-being?

A number of years ago, I decided to take back control of my health and fitness and reclaim myself again. I didn’t recognize the person in the mirror anymore. Little did I realise then, the crucial role strength training would play in how I experienced perimenopause and menopause.

We often hear about declining oestrogen levels and the heightened risk of bone loss or osteoporosis as we age. But here’s what I want more women to know: There are proactive ways to supplement what our hormones do—or once did. And strength training is one of those things.

If you’re MenoPositive, you want to have a more positive menopause experience - and learn how to live healthier, longer.

In the latest episode of MenoPositive the podcast, we’re challenging not just menopausal stereotypes, but ageing stereotypes.

💪 We keep hearing about the importance of strength training – especially in the menopause transition. It’s one of those things we know we should do, but just quite haven’t made the time for yet.

💡 Maybe this idea will help: Did you know, people don’t die of hot flashes and night sweats, but they do die of hip fractures.

If you’re MenoPositive you want to know how to have a more positive menopause experience and let’s face it, how to live healthier, longer.

This deserves a post, so I'm dropping it on the main feed. The legend herself and my wonderful client was featured in the last week. I couldn't be prouder of this lady and all we have achieved over the last (almost) 6 years together. She really is an inspiration to many and the hardest worker I know. It's so amazing to see that recognised in black and white 💪🏽

Marissa shows there is no barriers to weight training as long as you have a willingness to put the work in and trust the process. Thank you for your trust in me and in U.P. over the years, you are a great example of what can be achieved when you put your all into achieving a goal.

Absolute legend 👏🏼

Not done yet! 💪🏽
Annual shoot spam. (The clothes are getting more impractical by the year.) This has been one of the smoothest 'preps' I've had since the pre covid era. My training is the best it's been in a long time and I genuinely have fallen in love with lifting all over again. I've spent the last year just focusing on being strong and training because of how it makes me feel rather than how it makes me look (bye-bye bodybuilding... for now). I'm proud of what my body can do, especially after all it's been through and I'm officially the strongest I've ever been. Turns out that looks pretty decent too...
*Attempt number: Lost Count* to upload these pictures from May that for some reason keep getting blocked.

I had a nice caption about how my relationship with training and my body has changed a lot since covid but I can't be arsed to rewrite it again...

So here's me a few months ago, half-naked with a lush tan, prancing around the gym in clothes that are definitely not practical to train in 🙃

*insert random shoot from 2019* ITS MY 5 YEAR U.P. ANNIVERSARY 🥳 and the longest I've ever committed to anything...

5 years and 1 day ago I walked in on my first day as a junior trainer. It's crazy to think how much I have grown up in U.P. (in every sense of the word)

From starting out in our little team in Kensington, when there were only 6 of us in a brand new London location. Flash forward to this past year of having the opportunity to work as our women's representative and help develop the careers of our hardworking female trainers across the globe has been a massive whirlwind, and has lit so much passion and ambition in me. I couldn't be more grateful to for providing such a brilliant platform for trainers to build lifelong careers in this challenging industry and for seeing something in me that I couldn't see in myself.

The last 5 years, I have learnt so much and have been challenged in every way possible. It has not been an easy ride, but boy, has it been a rewarding one. As through every challenge, I've had the opportunity, and most importantly, the support, to grow and blossom.

I can't wait to see what the next 5 years hold.
Synchronised flexing.
