無理に平坦を作ろうとすれば、道路沿いに高い擁壁が立ち上がり、街に対して威圧的な構えを作ってしまうからです
嵐山の家では、敷地の元々の勾配を素直に受け入れ、内部をスキップフロアで繋ぐ断面計画としました。
地形に抗って土木工事でねじ伏せるのではなく
敷地の起伏を空間の断面へと翻訳する。
それが、街と土地に対する素直な構えだと
考えました。

窓の配置を決めるとき、間取りから先に考えることはしません。まず街に対して建築がどう構えるか、ファサード（立面）の検討から設計を始めます。
窓は、街と建築の距離を決める要素であり、建築の佇まいそのものです。
街に対する開口のあり方を先に定めることで、その窓に呼応するように内部の断面が決まり、開口の前にどのような居場所を置くべきかが自然と導かれます。
用途から間取りを組み、その結果から屋根や窓が決まるのではなく、街への構えから逆算して内部空間を立ち上げる。

庭へ開く3.6mの木製サッシの中心、窓から910mm控えた位置に一本の柱を建てました。
上部には、50年前の丸太の登り梁（ごろんぼ）。
昔の架構を現調して受け継ぎ、梁の交点に柱を落とし込むことで、新築時以上の構造的安定性を確保しています。
大開口の中心で空間の重心となるため、柱は八角に加工。
上部の鉛直荷重を受け止めつつ、視線と光を自然に受け流す役目を持たせています。
足元は床組を終え、断熱・気密の施工も完了しています。
仕上げで見えなくなる基礎や下地を確実に固めた上で、受け継いだ架構と新しい空間の軸を繋いでいます。

At the center of the 3.6-meter-wide wooden sliding doors opening onto the garden, we placed a single column setback 910mm from the window line.
Above sits a 50-year-old round log rafter (goronbo).
By carefully surveying and preserving the original structural framework and inserting the new column beneath the intersection of the beams, we achieved greater structural stability than the house possessed when originally built.
To serve as the spatial anchor amidst the expansive opening, the column was planed into an octagon—bearing the vertical load from above while softly deflecting light and lines of sight.
At the base, the subfloor framing, insulation, and airtight barrier are complete. With the concealed substructure firmly secured, the inherited timber frame is seamlessly tied into the axis of the new space.

なぜ、今も手書きで納まり図を描くのか
納まりのディテールを詰めるときは、 大きな縮尺で、手を使って図面を引きます。
デジタルの線はどこまでいっても太さを持たないけれど、 鉛筆の線には、わずかな幅と重みがあります。
実際の建築も同じです。 材木にも金物にも、現場にはすべて「厚み」が存在します。 その厚みを鉛筆の線で確かめながら、 始まりと終わりをきちんと手で仕舞っていく。
物と物がぶつかり合う取り合いを美しく解くには、 手を動かしながら素材と対話する感覚が欠かせません。
画面の中の数値だけでは見えてこない、 建築の確かな手触りを確かめる大切な時間です。

吹き抜け空間を単なる『広がり』ではなく
各個室の延長空間として捉えています。
建具の開け閉めによって
部屋の領域を大きく外へ広げられる空間。
家の中になるそれぞれの居場所を
柔らかく繋ぐことができる『中継点』のような存在です。
外との繋がりも同様です。
大きく開いた窓から空の高さや樹木を室内に取り込むことで、内と外の境界が曖昧になり
部屋の中にいながら、どこか半屋外に居るような心地よい距離感が生まれます。
単に天井を高くするのではなく、
個室の広がりを外の気配をどう受け止めるか
吹き抜けの役割を丁寧に解くことで、
家全体の居心地が静かに整っていきます。

A House in Kodaira: Atrium and Private Rooms
We view the atrium not merely as an open, expansive area,
but as an extension of the individual private rooms.
By opening or closing the fittings,
the boundaries of the rooms can be significantly extended outward.
It acts as a kind of "connecting point,"
softly linking the various living spaces within the home.
The same applies to the connection with the outdoors.
Large windows invite the height of the sky and the presence of trees inside,
blurring the boundary between the interior and exterior;
this creates a comfortable sense of space where one feels—while remaining indoors—
as if situated in a semi-outdoor setting.
Rather than simply raising the ceiling height,
we carefully consider the role of the atrium—
how it allows private rooms to expand and how it embraces the atmosphere of the outside world—
thereby quietly harmonizing the comfort of the entire home.
