To wrap up #NationalVolunteerWeek, our Hub volunteers reflect on how their time at EDV has helped them change and grow.

Learning any new skill can help us see things from a different perspective.

It can also shape the way we view ourselves and our lives.

#NVW2026
According to Volunteering Victoria’s latest ‘State of Volunteering in Victoria 2025’ report, more than 3 million Victorians volunteer in their community.

To us that statistic isn’t abstract – people in our community feel that impact each and every day!

People who volunteer gain many social and physical benefits, and today India and Bec tell us how showing up for our EDV community has touched their lives.

#NVW2026 #NationalVolunteerWeek
This #NationalVolunteersWeek, we’re celebrating all our volunteers.

From those working on our helpline, our ambassadors, and our board of directors, your dedication makes everything we do possible.

Across the week, our Hub volunteers are going to share their experiences with EDV.

Today, we ask what inspired them to donate their time and expertise to EDV.

It’s common to have mixed feelings about getting better, especially if the eating-disorder voice is meeting a need for you right now.

This reluctance can pop up at any stage of your recovery, and it can be difficult to know what to do.

In our new resource ‘Ambivalence in recovery’, we talk about what ambivalence looks like during recovery and offer practical, real-life tips that can help you move through uncertainty.

This resource is written by people who have been there, and in it they share the different ways ambivalence showed up for them and how they worked through it.

The Australian Government’s 2026-27 Federal Budget includes funding for mental health, suicide prevention, and eating disorder initiatives. 💭

But there’s still a major gap. 📣

Unless people with eating disorders are specifically included in NDIS reforms and new community support services outside the NDIS, many will miss out on the care they need. 🗣️

Eating disorders impact more than 1.1 million people in Australia. But because symptoms are often invisible, and can come and go, people may not meet the standard disability assessments, even when they urgently need support. 🦋

In honour of #InternationalNursesDay yesterday, we asked EDV nurse Jess about what brings her to nursing.

Caring for others comes naturally to Jess, who was encouraged by her family to explore nursing as a career.

“I felt a natural pull toward helping others when they were unwell... My family would often say, “you’d be a great nurse Jess” and that idea stayed with me from my childhood.”

Jess understands the connection between mental and physical health. She focusses on building rapport so you feel safe sharing what may be going on for you.

“I aim to build an inclusive space – where people feel listened to, validated, less alone, and proud of seeking support at any stage of recovery.”
