Late last year, I got to do some island hopping. It was hard to figure out the ferry system with the different islands, but after alot of deliberation, I just picked one. Me and my husband arrived on Tokashiki Island with no plans or reservations for transportation or accommodation. We were ready to sleep on the beach if it came to that, but thankfully we were able to find a campground with tent rentals. Being spontaneous and figuring things out on the go can be frustrating, but so rewarding!
I have so many photos from the Na Pali coast, from the air, sea, and land. It's challenging to narrow down my favorites without seeming repetitive, but this valley gets me every time. There's no other place like it in the world, and I'm so grateful to have been able to experience this unbelievable location.
Another image from the height of the blossom bloom on the island. I couldn't believe my luck when I arrived here to find it not crowded and the sunlight casting perfectly over the ruins.
This is the entry for Nakijin Castle, built around the 14th century when Okinawa was under the Ryukyu Kingdom. Historical sites like these fascinate me, and I love walking around and imagining what it must have been like to live during those times.

Park Avenue is the second viewpoint on the road into Arches National Park. There's a trail that leads into this valley, so you can hike to get some amazing sights. I regrettably didn't have enough time to explore as much as I would of liked, but was astounded by the spectacular rock formations.
I'm still finding my happy medium with editing. Sometimes, when I think I'm done, it still feels a bit dull, so I push it more, and then it's overprocessed. Can anyone relate?

Most commonly referred to as "Rabbit Island," it got its name from being inhabited by rabbits. They were released by a plantation owner in the 1880s and lived there for nearly a century. You'd never know seeing it from shore, but the islet is an extinct, collapsed volcano cone.

A really distinctive landscape feature on the island of Okinawa are these boulders. They are scattered along the coastline in various shapes and sizes.
These rock formations are more narrow at the bottom from being eroded by the ocean waves and typically have vegetation growing on top.

Originally, I had another post lined up but came across this photo yesterday. What caught my eye was the date that it was shot. February 17, 2015. This was the very same day that I met my now husband 8 years ago, and that made me feel very old! I had just recently started my IG account and began to pursue landscape photography.
I was much more focused on composites and would stitch photos together like puzzle pieces. Over the years, I've moved away from that but still love a good sky swap. I look back at my work and see how my editing has evolved. I think the essence of the photos is still the same but more refined, and that's exactly how I'd describe myself.

When it rains on this island, it creates countless cascades coming down the mountain ridges. I adventured out to try to capture the waterfalls a few days back. Majority of the time your camera can not convey the beauty the way your eyes see it. For me, that's when editing steps in.

Unfortunately the waterfalls weren't as big as I'd hoped so I cheated a bit. Ended painting the water in. This composite consists of 4 layers of images. Main source of inspiration came from Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens.

My most memorable experience on the trip. Seeing hot molten lava this close was a dream come true. I think the sound of it took me by surprise. Very similar to a crackling fire and the heat coming off of it was intense even from a distance.
