is the creation of Simon Parrott, whom I first met 12 years ago when he was just starting out with his food truck. Even back then, his signature burger, The Kim Chief, topped with house-made kimchi, was ahead of its time by Dutch standards. At a time when hardly anyone in the Netherlands had heard of kimchi—let alone used it on a burger—Simon was already doing it. To this day, The Kim Chief remains a staple on the menu.

One of the things that keeps people coming back is the monthly special burger. This month, Simon pays tribute to the famous In-N-Out burger with a special that is absolutely worth trying. It is only available throughout June.

After years of building his reputation, Simon has now found a permanent home at, the skatepark in Amsterdam Noord. Besides his signature beef burgers, made with a beef blend that includes bone marrow, The Beef Chief also serves halal chicken burgers, chicken wings on Wednesdays, vegetarian burgers, and a selection of regular and loaded fries. On weekends, you can also stop by from 12:00 PM for sandwiches and coffee.

For years, has been a favorite for authentic Japanese yakitori grilled over traditional binchotan charcoal. They serve a wide variety of beef, pork, chicken, and vegetarian skewers, alongside Japanese izakaya-style dishes like Chicken Nanban, Yakitori Don Set, Sirloin Steak Don, and Unagi Don.

Their new lunch menu now focuses entirely on Gyudon and Veggie Croquette Donburi, with prices starting from just €10 - making it far more affordable than the typical Japanese restaurant in Amsterdam. Definitely a good deal.

For their gyudon, they use halal short plate beef sliced to the ideal 1.3mm thickness for an authentic Japanese gyudon experience. The flavor is a true recreation of the gyudon that we had and loved in Japan.

To make lunch even quicker and smoother, they also introduced QR-code ordering and payment during lunch service.

At inside, John Zeefal has been quietly building one of the most solid comfort food spots in Amsterdam for years. This is the kind of place you go to when you want real flavour without overthinking it. The cheesesteak is rich and packed with depth, the burgers are on a completely different level with juicy bites and serious seasoning, and then there are the homemade pom bitterballen that bring a Surinamese inspired twist you do not forget quickly.

What stands out most is the consistency and the honesty in every dish. Nothing feels overcomplicated, just properly made comfort food that keeps people coming back again and again.

Owner Luan, who has Dutch-Vietnamese roots, learned in Vietnam how to make authentic Vietnamese baguettes, homemade pâté, Vietnamese sausage, and pickled vegetables from scratch. Even the drinks are prepared the traditional Vietnamese way.

Their signature Bánh Mì Chảo is something unique in the Netherlands, a complete hot plate meal served sizzling with crispy baguette, meats (pork or beef), eggs, and sides. This dish is dine-in only and cannot be taken away.

💰 Bánh Mì Chảo €16,50

Almost 10 years ago, Giuseppe and Alessia started in de Jordaan, serving fresh handmade pasta, seafood and authentic Italian flavours. From their famous black squid ink pasta to seafood flown in from Italy three times a week, you can truly taste the difference.

Come by for lunch with fresh sandwiches and pasta, or visit from 16:00 for their pizzas. Their homemade tiramisu is also a must try. Seating is very limited, but luckily everything is available for takeaway as well. One of those places I always keep coming back to.

Open Thursday until Monday for lunch and dinner.

is run by David Baxter and his partner Berber, who both found their passion for hospitality and each other while working at the Amstel Hotel. After years of experience across the industry, from brasseries to Michelin starred kitchens, Dave decided to start something of his own.

Almost three years ago, they opened Davie’s, where everything is made in house from the meats and sauces to the bread. It is the kind of place where craftsmanship really shows in every bite.

We have been coming here since day one and still keep going back. The Pastrami Lelie remains a personal favorite, while the A5 Wagyu bresaola is the sandwich of the moment, regularly rotating with new creative specials. The classic steak tartare is also the best we have ever had. There is also a strong vegetarian option called The Mumbai.

On request, they host intimate dinners for small groups in the evening, serving a multi course menu. Davie’s is absolutely worth checking out and I will definitely remain a fan.
