Hydroquinone 4% is effective for dark spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation especially, but misuse can cause problems.
Possible risks include:
-Skin irritation (redness, burning)
-Rebound darkening after stopping
-Rare long-term use risk: exogenous ochronosis (blue-black discoloration)
-Increased sun sensitivity
Tips for safer use:
-Use short-term only (12-24 weeks)
-Always use a tinted sunscreen each day
-Best used under dermatologist’s supervision
Bottom line: Hydroquinone is an effective treatment, but not risk-free and should be use under a dermatologist’s supervision.

One of the most valuable parts of international meetings is the opportunity to collaborate, exchange ideas, and learn from colleagues around the world. Advancing patient care and innovation happens faster when knowledge is shared across borders, specialties, and experiences. Grateful for the chance to connect with outstanding peers, strengthen global partnerships, and continue the important work of education transfer in dermatology. Looking forward to meaningful conversations and new perspectives in Gran Canaria.

As I reflect on this journey, I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving in roles that have expanded my perspective and purpose — from Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine, to President of the 20,000+ member American Academy of Dermatology, to founding and leading the Skin of Color Center and Skin of Color Society.
Leadership is not simply about titles; it is about creating pathways for others, building community, and advancing meaningful change. I remain inspired by the remarkable colleagues and future leaders who will continue to shape the future of dermatology.

An itchy scalp isn’t always “just dry skin.” Scalp itching is NOT normal and could be caused by:
- Infrequent shampooing and product buildup
- Stress & inflammation
- Skin disorders like dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis
- Scalp sensitivity and allergic reactions
- Alopecia like CCCA, FFA or LPP
- Not cleansing the scalp properly with conditioning or anti-dandruff shampoos
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp.
Hydration, gentle cleansing, stress management, and the right products can make a huge difference.
Remember: scratching and tapping treats the symptom — understanding the cause treats the problem.

What has happened to the standards for Uber and Lyft? Riders are paying premium prices while too many vehicles feel poorly maintained and uncomfortable.
Cleanliness and basic upkeep shouldn’t be optional when people depend on these services every day. Drivers deserve support, but passengers also deserve safe, clean, and professional rides.

Not every person with clear skin, affiliate links, and a sponsored serum is qualified to tell people how to treat acne, eczema, rosacea, damaged skin barriers or the other 3000 skin diseases. Skin conditions are MEDICAL issues, not aesthetics trends.
Please stop taking prescription-level advice from influencers whose only certification is “PR package recipient.” Some of you are ruining your skin listening to people who don’t even understand basic biology let alone dermatology.
A skin, nail, and hair disorders are not one-size-fits-all, and misinformation can actually cause real damage. If you want actual medical guidance and treatment, go to a board certified dermatologist — not someone whose qualifications are “went viral once.”
